Job Title: Permanent Building Substitute Teacher
Position Type: Full-Time (5 days/week), 2025–2026 School Year
Reports To: Building Principal or Designee
Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour
Start Date: 8/25/25
Key Responsibilities:
+ Deliver instruction and maintain classroom routines in accordance with teacher-provided lesson plans.
+ Manage classroom behavior and create a respectful and safe learning environment.
+ Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during school-related events.
+ Follow all school and district policies, including safety and emergency procedures.
+ Collaborate with staff to support student learning and building-wide initiatives.
+ Fill in for various grade levels and content areas with minimal advance notice.
Qualifications:
+ Must be an approved substitute teacher registered through the SubCentral assignment system atsubcentral.gwaea.org.
+ Must hold a valid substitute authorization or teaching license through the State of Iowa to register with SubCentral.
Schedule & Compensation:
+ Work Days: Monday–Friday, full school days.
+ Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
+ Benefits: Eligible for district health insurance, including a district contribution of $259/month.
+ This is a one-year non-renewal position. Candidates must reapply every year.
+ 170 day work calendar.

The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the classroom and building including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when required by instructional activities and when supervising students outside of the classroom.
