Responsibilities

We are seeking skilled and safety-focused **Container Handler Operators / Side Pick Operators** to join our terminal operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for organizing the container yard and safely operating heavy equipment to load and unload intermodal containers. The ideal candidate will have experience with container handling equipment, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

+ Operate container handling equipment (such as side picks or top picks) to **load and unload intermodal containers** from chassis and stack/unstack within the yard.

+ **Follow the established yard plan** to ensure efficient organization of containers and chassis.

+ **Work with gate personnel** to manage inbound and outbound equipment from drivers and coordinate pickups and drop-offs.

+ **Move refrigerated containers** to and from power outlets and wash bays as needed.

+ Support the maintenance shop by relocating containers and chassis for **repairs, inspections, and servicing** .

+ Maintain equipment and report any safety or mechanical issues promptly.

+ Ensure all work is performed in accordance with **company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards** .

+ Assist with general yard duties and other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications

+ Prior experience operating container handling equipment (side pick, top pick, reach stacker, etc.) **preferred**

+ Basic knowledge of intermodal container and chassis handling

+ Comfortable working in **outdoor environments** and in various weather conditions

+ Strong attention to safety and detail

+ Ability to **follow yard plans and stacking procedures** accurately

+ Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude

+ Willingness to assist with other yard and terminal duties as needed

+ Must be able to **lift up to 50 lbs** and perform physically demanding tasks

+ **Valid state driver's license** required

+ Must pass a pre-employment background verification, physical and drug screening

+ The Federal Rail Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. Use of cannabis is strictly prohibited. If applicable for the position you are applying to, and if you are offered the position, you will have to take and pass a drug screen.

+ Open availability

Preferred Traits

+ Experience in intermodal, transportation, or logistics environments

+ Ability to troubleshoot and identify equipment issues

+ Comfortable working independently or with minimal supervision

+ Prior experience in **container yard operations or intermodal logistics** strongly preferred

+ Experience operating a **crane and/or other types of heavy equipment** is a **plus**

+ **Previous hostler operator** experience is a **plus**
