The Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities to ensure maximum equipment uptime, safety, and operational efficiency. This role requires a deep understanding of heavy industrial equipment, preventive maintenance systems, and coordination with both internal teams and external vendors in a fast-paced, high-demand production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Coordinate and schedule preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance for heavy machinery, such as furnaces, rolling mills, conveyors, and overhead cranes.
+ Manage work orders through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); track maintenance KPIs and downtime metrics.
+ Collaborate with production, engineering, and safety teams to minimize downtime and maintain a safe, compliant work environment.
+ Prioritize maintenance tasks based on equipment criticality and production schedules.
+ Maintain parts inventory, order necessary supplies, and coordinate with vendors for specialized services or equipment.
+ Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, permits, and compliance with OSHA and other industrial regulations.
+ Assist in root cause analysis of equipment failures and implementation of reliability improvements.
+ Ensure proper documentation of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety audits.
Requirements:
+ High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree or technical certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical/electrical engineering, or related field, or equivalent work expereince preferred.
+ 5+ years of experience in maintenance coordination or planning in a heavy industrial or steel manufacturing environment, with direct supervision of maintenance supervisors.
+ Strong understanding of industrial equipment (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, PLCs, and welding systems).
+ Knowledge of OSHA regulations, industrial safety standards, and environmental compliance.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a supervisor working in a unionized, manufacturing/industrial environment is preferred.
+ Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with lean manufacturing, TPM, or reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
+ Familiarity with ISO 9001 or ISO 45001 standards.
