    Job Summary

    Creates and maintains Utility data files.Collects field data of new and existing underground utilities and surface features (building, roadways, etc.) within the campus lands. Prepares accurate and complete maps of said features to be inserted into the campus GIS system.

    Responsibilities

    Job Responsibilities:

    + Operate advanced surveying instruments—including GPS , EDM , LiDAR, and drones—to collect accurate location data for university property, utilities, and physical features.

    + Support the campus surveying team by operating standard field equipment and marking existing utility lines.

    + Maintain detailed records of field activities and assist in transferring collected data into the GIS system. Updating points, lines, polygons and attributes.

    + Coordinate and communicate related to utility data to ensure accuracy and consistency.

    + Assist in resolving discrepancies in utility and spatial data.

    + Participate in quality control reviews of record drawings and survey data submitted by contractors.

    + Provide additional support for various campus surveying tasks as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    One year of full-time map drawing and surveying/drafting experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); the ability to perform general mathematical calculations; the ability to use surveying equipment including levels, theodolites and EDM ; and demonstrated effective communication and human relations skills required. Experience working with computers and CAD or other drafting software preferred.

     

    Preferences

     

    + One to three years of full-time experience in map drafting, surveying, or related technical work; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered (one year of education equals two years of relevant experience).

    + Experience using surveying equipment, including levels, and electronic distance measurement ( EDM ) tools.

    + Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Preferred experience and knowledge in plats, technical drawings, mapping, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ESRI GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, Geoprocessing tools and Field Maps).

    + Proficiency in general mathematical calculations.

    + Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.
