Overview

Under the supervision of an RN provides direct patient care to patients on the pediatric mental health inpatient unit . Performs procedures for patients and provides technical services and support. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, improved patient care, a safe environment and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care:

+ Completes Mental Health Assessments on patients after admission.

+ Provides milieu and skill building groups to patients and provides 1:1 supervision as needed.

+ Assists patients with activities of daily living.

+ Answers patient call lights.

+ Assists with simple procedures as defined in work area.

+ Takes and records vital signs and weights.

+ Completes timely safety rounds on patients.

+ Communicates therapeutically with patients to show support and concern.

+ Assists with de-escalation interventions under the direction of an RN.

+ Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment.

+ Performs procedures specific to the assigned area.

+ Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.

+ Assists in collection of urine specimens and labels all specimens in accordance with standards.

+ Demonstrates ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.

+ Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service.

+ Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Mental Health related field preffered.

Experience: Previous healthcare & behavioral healthcare experience.

License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity. Microsoft Office – basic computer skills. Customer/patient focused.

Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
