    Marshalltown Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Med/Surg team. Our 16-bed inpatient unit provides care for a diverse patient population, including general medical, telemetry, surgical, and pediatric patients. As part of our team, you will encounter high-acuity patients while being supported by a collaborative and dedicated group of healthcare professionals.

    As a Registered Nurse on our Med/Surg unit, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with the Medical Plan of Care. You will function as a primary nurse or charge nurse, ensuring the highest quality of patient care in alignment with the philosophy and objectives of UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown Hospital. In this role, you will exercise accountability, responsibility, and authority while demonstrating autonomy in your practice. Additionally, you will serve as a role model and resource person, utilizing your expanded knowledge and expertise to guide and support the team.

    Responsibilities

    + Collaborates with other healthcare team members and the patient/family to develop an individualized plan of care.

    + Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to any age related need of the patients served on the assigned unit.

    + Delegates duties based on the scope of the role, knowledge and skill of the caregiver.

    + Recognizes situations and significant assessment findings that require verbal or written communication and follow through to the appropriate individuals (provider, charge nurse, nurse manager, supervisor).

    + Obtains, records and/or accurately enters data into the EMR. Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.

    + Communicates with the healthcare team, ancillary staff, patients and visitors in a respectful and professional manner.

    + Participates in and completes all education and training programs as required by hospital policy and as requested by manager/director.

    + Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating critical thinking and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies and procedures and standards of care.

    + Incorporates the focus of unit or hospital performance improvement efforts in every aspect of day to day nursing care.

    + Hand-offs will be done with attention to detail and with safety as a high priority. Hand-offs are utilized to communicate patient treatment and assessment information, patient education needs, goals of

    + care and other quality care measures at each change of caregiver or setting of care.

    + Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    + Minimum of an Associate Degree of Nursing

    + Internal applicants within UPH-Marshalltown, in good standing, with six months of hospital experience will be considered.

    + Valid RN license

    + Read, writes, speaks and comprehends fluent English

    + Basic computer skills

    + Customer/patient focused

    + Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions

    + Models professionalism and ethical behavior

    + Contributes to a positive morale

    + Recognizes the importance of each position in the hospital and treats others as equal and valued members of the healthcare team.

    + Actively assures patient confidentiality, privacy and security regarding all organizational information

    + Maintains RN skills within scope of practice

    Preferred:

    + Bachelor of Science in Nursing

    + PALS for any pediatric nurse
