Description

The Yard Laborer position supports the Truck Drivers and Tow Motor Operators with loading and unloading materials, customer pick-ups and moving precast concrete products to and from storage areas. Additional duties include maintaining cleanliness, landscaping, and safety of the yard.

Essential functions

+ Review schedule and coordinate with dispatch at start of shift.

+ Keep tow motors, trucks, and trailers clean and maintained.

+ Daily safety checks and equipment inspections.

+ If there is dunnage on the ground or left by truck drivers, pick it up and put it where it belongs.

+ Support the move of products to yard areas with proper equipment and efficiently stack and store the product in the appropriate area.

+ Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly yard.

+ Assist in maintaining the security of the yard.

+ Conduct all operations in a manner which promotes safety.

+ Operate materials handling equipment safely and efficiently using safety equipment as required.

+ Report and communicate all problems, questions, and issues right away.

Work environment

• This position is not in a controlled environment; work will be performed indoors and outdoors.

Physical demands

• Regularly required to talk or hear.

• Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.

• The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud at times.

Required education and experience:

• 2+ years’ experience working in material handling, manufacturing or construction environments (preferred)

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred education and experience

• Forklift, Tow Motor or other heavy equipment operations.

Additional eligibility requirements

+ Attendance is very important, being here and on time and at work every day.

+ Observing all Safety rules and policies including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
