Job Summary and Qualifications
General Statement of Duties:
The Certified Endo Technician is responsible for assisting with delivery of quality advanced GI and Pulmonary care through planning and anticipating the physician and anesthesiologist needs and coordinating with circulating nurse during procedures. Demonstrates competency is GI and Pulmonary Advanced procedures, includes gathering and prepping supplies, equipment, preparing and assisting with the procedure along with maintaining proper regulatory compliance with scope handing and processing. Performs routine and specific department duties. Consistently follows current standards of practice and regulatory standards.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:
+ **Education:** High School graduate or GED equivalent
+ **Experience:** 1 year of GI Tech job experience
+ Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
+ **Preferred:** 5+ years of GI, Surgical, or Anesthesia Tech experience
Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:
+ Methodist Hospital - ION Certified and BCLS
+ Methodist Hospital Stone Oak – Endoscopic Ultrasound, Endoscopic Ultrasound w/Radiofrequency Ablation, Stretta Procedures, Spy Glass Procedures, ERCP w/Metal Stent Placement, Robotic Bronchoscopy and Rigid Bronchoscopy, POEM procedures, EMR procedures, ESD procedures, EDGE procedures, Overstitch suturing, EBUS, Pulmonary Cryo Therapy, Endoscopic Cryo Therapy, Celiac plexus blocks and neurolysis, Cyst Gastrostomy with necrosectomy, Full Thickness Resection Device (FTRD)
Essential Job Functions:
1. Assists with anesthesia and other airway needs for phase 1 and phase 2 recovery patients.
2. Assists with the maintenance, setup/breakdown and functioning of our anesthesia machines.
3. Assist physicians on advanced pulmonary cases such as rigid bronchoscopy and robotic bronchoscopy.
4. Assists physicians on advanced Gastroenterology cases such as endoscopic ultrasound, endoscopic ultrasound with radiofrequency ablation, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.
5. Perform high level disinfection for all scopes based on the hospital and manufactures policies and standards. This also included unique understanding of the different processes for our more advanced endoscopic equipment such as ION robotic radial probes.
6. Plans for and obtains the equipment and supplies needed for assigned procedures according to physician’s preference and specific patient needs.
7. Prepares equipment and supplies according to manufactures recommendations and specifications for use during advanced procedures.
8. Monitors equipment during procedure and takes appropriate measures to ensure integrity of equipment and proper handling of scopes. Initiates corrective action for any complications encountered.
9. Prepares medications and solutions for use during procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse, according to physician’s orders.
10. Maintains accountability for instruments according to hospital policy throughout the advanced procedure to ensure that no malfunctions occur. Takes appropriate action if they do.
11. Consistently follows safety procedures and protocols for Timeout and when handling sharp instruments, powered equipment, and hazardous chemicals.
12. Performs high-level disinfection using established policies and procedures as required.
13. Understands and utilizes infection control standards related to disposable and non-disposable equipment
14. Must be skilled in the following:

+ ERCP w/ metal stent placement

Additional Job Functions:
1. May handle, pick up, deliver and/or stock non-controlled medications as directed by a licensed team member.
2. Maintains an efficient controlled procedural environment by processing and re-stocking supplies and equipment.
3. Ensures the integrity and safety of the specimen prior to pathology procedures. Collects and labels specimens for diagnostic lab per hospital policy and procedure.
4. Assists with providing care for the patient both pre, intra and post advance procedure. Will aid with transporting and positioning patient on the operating table, specific to operative procedure.
5. Supports anesthesiologists in times of need and able to assist in emergency.
6. Supports the mission and vision of Methodist Healthcare System. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals.
7. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times must immediately report unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools, and materials encompassed by job duties and must check with supervisors if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any function.
8. Adheres to the MHS code of conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues, and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules, regulations, or the code of conduct.
9. Completes other duties assigned.
