Job Summary and Qualifications
The Chaplain is responsible for providing spiritual care services and support throughout the hospital. The Chaplain coordinates the work of volunteer chaplains, clinical pastoral education interns, and works with the department manager and director in ways that meet three primary objectives: To provide excellent spiritual and emotional support through pastoral care and counseling; To enable patients, family members, and staff to use values, beliefs, and faith for health, wholeness, and healing, and; To provide pastoral care and counseling resources for area clergy, pastoral persons, and faith groups.
+ You will actively participate in the delivery of spiritual care, with particular attention to persons experiencing grief and loss and assist and provide support for the work of those delivering spiritual care.
+ You will triage and manage crises in the practice of spiritual care and ensure that ritual and sacramental needs are met, as requested.
+ You will ensure availability of and participation in ongoing education and development, with particular attention to the areas of health care, spiritual care and integration.
+ You will foster a collaborative relationship with community clergy and faith group leaders and coordinate clergy, pastoral visitors, and volunteers from the religious community.
+ You will provide oversight, guidance, and direct pastoral and spiritual care to patients, family members, employees, volunteers, and physicians, in keeping with the standards of the Department of Pastoral Care for Sunrise Health.
What qualifications you will need:
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s of Divinity, four (4) quarters of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) through the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) satisfactorily completed or Doctor of Ministry. Master’s of Divinity preferred.
+ Must be a Board Certified Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or become Board Certified within 2 years of employment.
+ Ordination, and endorsement by a Religious Judicatory, and Board Certified (e.g., The National Association of Catholic Chaplains, The Association of Professional Chaplains, The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, the National Association of Jewish Chaplains).
+ Training and experience in Bioethics preferable.
+ Must have at least 2 years of full time hospital or hospice chaplain experience. This includes experience in pastoral counseling, weddings, memorials, baptism, and teaching in the field of spiritual care and bioethics.
+ Hospital Chaplain experience, Bioethics experience, and Clinical Pastoral Education highly preferred.
