    Purpose

     

    Perform the design and structural engineering services related to Ports & Harbor projects serving as the senior technical consultant to individuals within and outside the organization.

    Responsibilities

    Leadership and Direction

    + Serve as the senior technical authority for structural and marine infrastructure projects, guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams and project managers.

    + Establish and enforce technical standards, design protocols, and quality assurance procedures across the firm.

    + Lead the recruitment, development, and mentoring of engineering staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.

    + Provide thought leadership in new technologies, materials, and construction methodologies relevant to waterfront and heavy industrial environments.

    + Partner with executive leadership to align engineering goals with overall business strategy.

    At the Operational and Company Level

    + Represent the firm in high-level client and stakeholder engagements to build trust, demonstrate capability, and secure future business.

    + Oversee preparation and review of proposals, contract negotiations, and project scopes to ensure profitability and delivery feasibility.

    + Direct internal process improvements to increase engineering productivity, collaboration, and cross-functional integration.

    + Serve as a key liaison to regulatory agencies, industry bodies, and partners for compliance, policy input, and permitting issues.

    + Contribute to strategic business planning, budgeting, and risk assessment at the executive level.

    Do the Work

    + Provide expert oversight on complex technical challenges, including design reviews, constructability assessments, and troubleshooting.

    + Ensure that all engineering work adheres to current standards (ASCE, ACI, AISC, AWS, etc.), codes, regulations, and best practices.

    + Lead review of design documents, technical specifications, and contract deliverables for high-profile and high-risk projects.

    + Conduct or supervise advanced structural analysis for waterfront structures, including wharves, piers, bulkheads, dolphins, and fender systems.

    + Support ongoing projects with on-site presence during critical construction phases, as needed, to advise on field issues and contractor coordination.

    + Oversee forensic engineering investigations and provide senior-level reporting on findings, risks, and corrective actions.

    + Actively contribute to the development and implementation of company-wide engineering software, tools, and digital workflows

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Coastal Engineering. Master’s or PhD in Structural, Civil, or Coastal Engineering preferred.

    + Minimum of 15 years of experience in waterfront, marine, or heavy industrial engineering.

    + Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; SE license preferred.

    + Extensive experience leading teams in the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

    + Mastery of relevant software including AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD, SAP2000, and Microsoft Office.

    + Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASCE, ACI, AISC, AWS, etc.).

    + Proven track record in client management, technical leadership, and business development.

    + Participation in technical committees or leadership in industry organizations, preferred.

    + Experience with BIM/VDC, digital twin technology, and modern marine construction techniques, preferred.

    Physical Demands and Working Environment

    + Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

    + Mobility around an office environment.

    + Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

    + Frequent local travel to and/or work in an outdoor environment which may include being on watercraft, adverseweather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

    + Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    + Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.

    + Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.

    + Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

    + Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
