Job Description:
The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking Senior Field Engineering Technicians to join our growing practice. We are looking for motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Field observation and documentation of construction activities for structures, roads, parking areas, utilities (especially storm water collection, sanitary sewer, power, communications/internet, and others), retaining walls, and other construction. Activities to be observed include subgrade preparation, excavation, backfill placement, sub-base placement, soil improvement, compaction, concrete placement, paving, and specialty construction
+ Testing of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry, grout, fireproofing, structural steel, and reinforcing steel
+ Collect data, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation
+ Perform laboratory soils, aggregate, materials, and concrete testing
+ Preparation of reports documenting observations and test results
+ Communication with contractors and engineers to discuss observations and test results
Required Skills/Experience:
+ Prior experience on construction projects (5+ years is preferred)
+ High School degree or higher
+ Work may require access to military facilities
+ Technician certification (ACI, ICC, SCDOT or AASHTO) or the ability to obtain within 6 months
+ MSHA 5000-23 Training or the ability to obtain within 6 months
+ Excellent mathematic computational skills
+ Possess good oral and written communication skills
+ Attention to detail and well-organized
+ Ability to work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-office team
+ Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level
+ Advanced Knowledge of Soil and Concrete Laboratory testing
+ Interest in working outdoors and on construction sites, at all times of the year
+ Basic understanding of, and the ability to use hand tools
+ Must be able to lift 50 - 75 pounds on an occasional basis and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, climb ladders and work outside
+ Strong mechanical aptitude preferred
Other Requirements:
+ Valid Driver’s License
+ Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
+ Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
+ Project sites can be throughout the southeast. Candidates must be willing to travel (travel time & mileage paid).

The compensation range for this position is between $25/hr to $35/hr. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
