Are you a detail-oriented laboratory professional looking to advance your skills in a cutting-edge laboratory environment? Join the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine as a Technician I in the Renal Pathology department! In this role, you will assist in receiving and processing tissue and biofluid samples received by the International Veterinary Renal Pathology Service (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/ivrps/) (IVRPS) for both diagnostic and research purposes, performing diagnostic and research tests on samples, preparing results for clients and researchers, recording sample information, test results, and experimental observations, and communicating with clients and researchers. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, well-organized, motivated, able to work independently, and willing to learn new laboratory techniques.
Minimum Qualifications
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Two years of related experience working in a laboratory setting
The well-qualified candidate will also possess
+ Prior independent experience handling basic laboratory equipment such as pipettors and centrifuges
+ Handling of patient samples
+ Experience using Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word
+ Ability to learn new software platforms
+ Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Some of the Responsibilities Include:
+ Laboratory Operations: Maintain supply inventory, replenish stocks, order supplies. Perform general lab maintenance and minor repairs to assigned equipment. Maintain a clean, sanitary, and functionally organized work area in keeping with requirements of laboratory inspections. Review requests for sample collection kits. Prepare and ship sample collection materials to clients. Oversee sample receipt and accessioning. Oversee and assist with initial tissue and biofluid processing, urinalysis, and storage/biobanking. Makes and records observations and measurements. Assist with performance and troubleshooting of diagnostic tests or experiments conducted on biological samples obtained from animals with renal disease. Communicate with clients regarding sample receipt, quality, turnaround time for results, final results, and outstanding payments. Submit and retrieve light microscopy samples to/from histology, review light microscopy slides for quality and submit for scanning. Assist with sectioning of tissue samples in preparation for immunofluorescence and transmission electron microscopy. Perform immunofluorescence staining and imaging of tissue samples. Perform and image urine SDS-PAGE. Prepare urine SDS-PAGE reports for pathologist review. Assist with communications with contract pathologists. Assist with training of other laboratory personnel (predominantly student workers). Assist with answering IVRPS emails and phone calls.
+ Data Entry: Assist with maintaining chemical and supply inventory logs. Assist with maintaining records of equipment service. Assist with ordering new materials/supplies. Organize and digitize all received sample paperwork. Archive and organize digitized whole slide images on external hard drives and cloud-based storage. Assist with management and updating of case task lists, sample database, and freezer logs and keep up to date. Assist with basic/minimal service website maintenance. Uses computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data.

Salary: Starting at $15.85/hour.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm or 7:30am to 4:30pm. May require infrequently working holidays if the University accepts deliveries on such days.
