    Position Description

    This non-civil service position provides an extraordinary career opportunity for an experienced communications professional who is collaborative, visionary, and a strategic partner. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing setting and must possess a passion for public service.     The East Bank Development Authority (EBDA) is a newly created Authority for the implementation and oversight of redevelopment on Nashville’s East Bank. The East Bank is a 550-acre area adjacent to the Cumberland River and situated between the heart of downtown Nashville and the thriving neighborhoods of East Nashville. Running from River North and the planned Oracle campus south to I-24 and including 130 acres of Metro-owned land, today the area is comprised of mostly asphalt parking lots, industrial and commercial uses, and Nissan Stadium. The EBDA is working daily to implement and install Nashville’s next great neighborhoods. This is an exciting opportunity to work on multi scale projects from regional planning efforts to singular utility installations. EBDA is authorized under Chapter 68 of the State of Tennessee Private Acts of 2024, as adopted by BL2024-428.

    Typical Duties

    Reporting to the EBDA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Public Information and Communications Director will:

    + Develop a comprehensive wholistic communication strategy to engage and inform, increase public understanding, obtain support and maintain positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, community-based organizations, community members, advisory committees, government agencies and media.

    + Design and produce, or oversee preparation of, communications for events, community engagement and outreach, project information, education, internal communications, and digital/social media.

    + Represent the EBDA as an official spokesperson to the media and the public; develop, manage and implement proactive and responsive media relations programs; direct external messaging, including responding to press inquiries, producing press releases, statements of articles and coordinating press conferences and media events on a local, state, national and international levels.

    + Ideate, implement and analyze the content and continuity of the EBDA’s social media channels and website through consistent and accurate messaging that positively reflects the Authority.

    + Manage communications with communities impacted by the EBDA’s initiatives and projects to understand needs and to build positive community relations.

    + Provide and perform policy and legislative outreach and communications on behalf of the EBDA.

    + Manage crisis communication for the EBDA and brief EBDA leadership on significant matters.

    + Assist EBDA leadership with the creation of a carefully crafted public image for the EBDA.

    + Coordinate media training to prepare staff as appropriate.

    + Manage and develop employees, including but not limited to providing direct instruction, completing evaluations, approving leave requests, and counseling employees on performance or discipline.

    Minimum Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or closely related field.

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

     

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Experience serving in a senior communications role with demonstrated success sharing complex or technical information in an accessible manner with the public.

    + Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, laws, and other regulations related to the publication of communications material.

    + Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and under pressure.

    + Established relationships with a wide range of contacts in the media.

    + Effective working relationships with State and Metro leadership.

    + Working knowledge of general Metro rules, policies, and procedures.
