The Pathology Department is seeking a **_Consult Coordinator_** to be responsible for performing duties related to and including accessioning second opinion and confirming consult cases. Correctly identifies, obtains and enters patient demographics, clinical impression, and insurance billing information. Interaction involves consult coordinators, pathologists, pathology assistants/residents, laboratory technicians, medical transcriptionists, administrative assistants, medical records/surgical pathology archivists, couriers, clinicians and patients. Work cooperatively and successfully in a team environment. Carries out responsibilities in a timely fashion, providing a high level of customer service and performing tasks accurately. Knows and understands policies, work rules and procedures.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
+ Receive and set up consult cases, makes sure that slides/blocks and paperwork match.
+ Checks for/obtains billing information.
+ Accurately accession second opinion and confirm cases, enter billing information
+ Print slide labels. Bar code labeling of paperwork. Enter information for on-line
+ ordering of special/immunohistochemical stains. Monitor and file tissue blocks and
+ unstained slides.
+ Backup for answering telephone, provide superior customer service and follow-up on requests,
+ questions or concerns while adhering to policies, work rules and Johns Hopkins
+ standards for service excellence.
+ Mail reports. Enter data in Pathology Data Systems, Federal Express Shipping system
+ and package slides for return to institution. Amend reports as needed.
+ Utilize established procedures to recognize discrepancies in patient medical records and
+ report corrective action to Quality Assurance Coordinator.
+ Transport slides/materials within Reed Hall and to Weinberg.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Extensive knowledge of pathology medical terminology, insurance and billing practices, anatomy, diagnoses, and operational procedures.
+ Knowledge of computers, data entry, fax machine, photo-copy machine and other general office equipment; analytical ability to work with numbers and accuracy is essential; communication. interpersonal skills to interact with patients, clinicians and other staff.
+ Ability to work independently, prioritize work and handle detailed information under tight deadlines.
+ Understand implications of correct entries and effect on patient diagnoses and billing.
+ Familiar with web-based applications and can easily develop skills on new systems.
+ Maintain cooperative working relationships within a confined area.
Minimum Qualifications
+ High School diploma or equivalent required.
+ Experience in a medical office environment or equivalent experience.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Training course preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $16.20 - $28.80 HRLY ($42.000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
