    We are seeking a **_Sr. Physician Assistant_** who practices within the guidelines of the department and institution in accordance with the Physician Assistant Delegation Agreement required and approved by the State of Maryland and appropriately credentialed by the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Sr. Physician Assistants will work under the direction, supervision and responsibility of an attending physician, and in accordance with established policies evaluate patient health status through diagnostic procedures and tests. Sr. Physician Assistants will work alongside fellows, residents, nurses, radiologic technologists and other healthcare professionals to provide the highest quality therapeutic patient care. Sr. Physician Assistants must have a comprehensive understanding of clinic and/or surgical procedures, patient care, procedures, medical protocols and testing procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, psychology, pharmacology, clinical medicine, radiology, microbiology and pathology.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    + Work as a physician assistant to provide patient services under the supervision of a physician trained in Interventional Radiology.

    + Perform comprehensive physical assessments on patients at the initial consultation and upon follow-up visits, as clinically indicated. Significant physical findings are validated or discussed with a physician when appropriate.

    + Order diagnostic studies such as blood chemistries, complete blood counts, tumor marker levels, hormone levels, microbiology cultures, urinalyses and diagnostic radiological testing.

    + Consult with physician before ordering studies as needed.

    + Responsible for interpreting laboratory results and discussing abnormal results when appropriate.

    + Perform routine procedures such as venipuncture, suturing or minor wounds, suture removal, wound incision and drainage, suturing of catheters and removal of central venous catheters.

    + Perform specialized procedures such as central venous line placement or biliary tube changes with indirect supervision of a supervising physician.

    + Obtain informed consent from the patient or guardian for invasive procedures.

    + Assist the physician in specialized interventional radiological procedures as needed.

    + Develop patient care protocols and follow-up guidelines.

    + Determine appropriate medical patient needs and provide clinical direction to secretarial staff.

    + Prepare and maintain functional documents/reports for patient follow-up and data collection for research protocols.

    + Perform telephone triage and addresses acute medical problems and concerns.

    + Exercise prescriptive authority and medical order writing authority to prescribe medicines such as antibiotics, steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, laxatives, anti-emetics, antacids, and analgesics.

    + Make referrals to medical specialists and other health care providers in consultation with the physician.

    + May initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation, start oxygen and provide first-aid measures until physician arrives.

    + Maintain communication with the primary physician and consults as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.

    + Minimum of 3 year's experience in related clinical area and obtained proficiency in area of specialty. Five years related experience preferred.

    + Residency or fellowship programs in area of specialization may substitute for some experience.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Starting Salary Range: $87,400 - $152,900 Annually ($125,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp)

    The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
