_Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a remote work arrangement with an onsite presence of three days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days._
The Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) office helps Johns Hopkins realize its mission of providing knowledge for the world by communicating the successes and priorities of the Johns Hopkins Institutions.
The Associate Director of Alumni Relations is a key member of the Whiting School of Engineering’s Alumni Relations team. The position provides strategic management for volunteer engagement opportunities, volunteer board programming, our pipeline of future volunteers and donors, and local and regional alumni events to build the Hopkins Engineering community.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
+ Strategic management and administrative support for the Hopkins Engineering Alumni Leadership Committee, an alumni volunteer board tasked with advising on key Whiting School development and alumni relations initiatives. This includes recruiting and retaining members, organizing regular meetings with board members and leadership, ensuring the work of the group helps the school’s mission, and soliciting members for philanthropic gifts.
+ Co-management and tracking of the WSE Volunteer Leadership Pipeline.
+ Management and recruitment of the Hopkins Engineering Alumni Ambassadors program, a pre-board opportunity for identifying and engaging alumni with leadership potential.
+ Management and creation of current and future volunteer engagement programming including the WSE mentoring program, the Hopkins Engineering Alumni Spotlight Recognition program, and the Student Initiative Fund yearly awards.
+ Development, promotion, and execution of events that support the University’s alumni engagement strategic plan and operational plan for the Whiting School of Engineering. This includes both creating new initiatives as well as managing and executing existing flagship events. These events could include but are not limited to: Volunteer Leadership Dinners, Virtual Coffee Chat programming, Endowed Lectures, Regional Dean's Networking Events, Career skill-building events and student facing alumni panels, and Intersession Treks and related Networking Programs
+ Tasks include: Developing overarching strategy for the event; drafting, circulating, and finalizing briefing materials for deans and/or other university leadership; Tracking budget with expenditures in a timely manner; Development and implementation of a follow-up strategy to ensure all events are being used as engagement, cultivation, or stewardship tools and support the growth and continuing health of the Whiting School of Engineering’s Leadership and Donor pipelines.
+ Drive Hopkins Engineering Alumni communication efforts.
+ In conjunction with the Whiting School communications team, develop and send quarterly newsletters for alumni.
+ Collect content and updates for the engineering.jhu.edu/alumni website, OneHop Alumni, or any other online platform, including news posts about events, videos, and alumni profiles.
+ Ensure regular collaboration with the Whiting School of Engineering’s Gift Officer team so that they are aware and using alumni relations events as an effective major gift prospect engagement tool. Oversee the WSE Alumni Relations Engagement Spreadsheet and ensure that it is up to date with current opportunities for prospects.
+ Proactively collaborate and create partnerships with Central Alumni Relations team, Whiting School Life Design Lab, Hopkins Fund Team, and Regional Gift Officer team to further pathways for alumni to engage with the school.
+ Participate in regular meetings to share information on WSE programs and look for opportunities to collaborate.
+ Act as a liaison and resource to the Hopkins Fund and Regional Giving teams. Ensure they are aware of WSE engagement opportunities and have a pathway to sharing prospects for speaking and engagement opportunities and further volunteer leadership development.
+ Develop the strategy for and lead at least one annual giving campaign per year.
+ Lead the efforts to identify candidates and complete the Whiting School’s Alumni Association Alumni Council nominations and Alumni Awards nominations.
+ Perform other development and alumni relations related duties, as assigned.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
+ Excellent communication skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively; ability to make independent decisions, and the discernment to know when independence is warranted; ability to work as part of an effective team with a results-oriented approach.
+ Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new development computer software systems.
+ May include hours outside of normal working hours and on the weekend.
+ Ability and willingness to travel.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree
+ Three years related experience
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in alumni relations, student affairs, event production and management, fundraising, volunteer management or donor relations preferred.

The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
