    General Job Description

    Responsible for the daily assessing, planning, and organizing of teaching activities and providing appropriate innovative instruction based on student needs. Fosters a community of learners where the teacher becomes a facilitator of learning, a mentor, and a coach. Creates a positive learning environment that impacts all students with the opportunity to develop autonomy, openness, integrity, collaborative skills, and creativity. Possesses the ability to communicate effectively with peers, teachers, and persons with advanced levels of expertise in common areas of interest and involvement. Evaluates individual child’s performance of activities and recommend promotion. Fosters a mastery of the TEKS in the core academic disciplines in preparing students for secondary and post-secondary education. Develops programs for students with special needs. Supervises and mentors university teacher candidates working in the classroom. Reports directly to the CEO of the SFA Charter School and the academic coordinator.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Plans and uses appropriate instructional learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and meet the needs of assigned students.

    2. Develops and implements TEKS based lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of campus curricula and shows written evidence of preparation as required.

    3. Works cooperatively to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans ( IEP ).

    4. Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to campus requirements.

    5. Plans, supervises, and evaluates assignments of teacher aide(s), volunteer(s), and teacher candidate(s).

    6. Uses technology to strengthen the learning environment.

    7. Assists in the management of the daily attendance and other classroom routines.

    8. Conducts ongoing informal and formal TEKS based assessment of student achievement to guide instruction and inform stakeholders.

    9. Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsors activities approved by CEO , i.e. safety patrol, student organizations, after school programs.

    10. Implements a facilitator/mentor style of instruction to create a classroom environment conducive to learning along with physical, social, and emotional development of students.

    11. Professionally manages classroom/students in accordance with established policies and procedures.

    12. Establishes and maintains open effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and the community.

    13. Stays abreast of and complies with all school, university, state and federal regulations and policies.

    14. Compiles and maintains required reports, records, and other documents.

    15. Schedules and conducts parent conferences, and fully participates in parent involvement activities.

    Non-Essential Job Functions

    1. Attends and fully participates in meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

    2. Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

    3. Participates in and fully implements professional development activities to improve instruction.

    4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

     

    1. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.

    2. Must have strong teaching skills.

    3. Ability to maintain appropriate classroom management.

    4. Must have a thorough knowledge of child growth and development.

    5. Ability to work effectively with parents and fellow teachers/administrators.

    6. Possess effective organizational skills.

    7. Able to operate a personal computer with general understanding of application software and the Internet.

    8. Must have knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

     

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

    Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with appropriate and current Texas certification in the area is required. Candidates without current Texas certification will be considered if certification can be obtained prior to start date.

    Required Experience and Training

    Two years of effective classroom teaching experience is required. Experience acquired during student teaching, internships, and other related classroom teaching can be considered to meet the experience requirement.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education is preferred.

     

    Special Conditions for Eligibility

     

    This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

     

    This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

     

    Min Pay Rate $25.00/hour

     

    Mid Pay Rate

     

    Salary Information Commensurate with Experience

    Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting

    This position is for a part-time music teacher. Minimum of two years of experience teaching music to children is preferred.

    Benefit and Retirement Eligibility

     

    This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
