Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines R&D is recruiting for a Principal Scientist, Computational Neurotranscriptomics to be located in either San Diego, CA, or Cambridge, MA. This exceptional scientist will join the Computational Neuroimaging Technologies team within the Neuroscience Precision Measures organization.

In this role, the individual will bring expertise in human neuroimaging, computational neuroscience, biophysical modeling, as well as a deep understanding of human gene expression for drug target discovery. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in coding, excellent quantitative skills and the ability to conceptualize drug development across levels of analysis.

The Principal Scientist will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team, working to develop generative AI approaches that leverage human gene expression information. They will work alongside a team that interfaces with diverse domains, including molecular, digital, and imaging biomarkers. The candidate will be applying state-of-the-art human neuroimaging analysis methods in combination with biophysical modeling approaches capable of simulating drug effects at the cellular level. By doing so, the candidate will contribute to novel approaches for building confidence around neural target engagement as well as development of patient selection approaches for clinical trials. These efforts will help advance a mechanistic neuroscience methodological framework that leverages human neuroimaging while spanning levels of analysis in the direct service of building models that inform precision measures for clinical trials. Furthermore, the candidate will work closely with key members of the Precision Measures team and data science to drive the integration of advanced analytic approaches into the Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence Optimized (NAIO) platform that supports scale and automation. In this role the candidate will have an opportunity to directly impact the next generation of computational neuroimaging approaches for drug discovery in neuroscience. In this role you will be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary Precision Measures team with diverse expertise, driving value across our pipeline from discovery through development.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Work within a multi-disciplinary team focused on linking levels of analysis, from transcriptomic data in human to functional neuroimaging signals in response to drug challenge

+ Develop and apply generative biophysical computational models that are capable of simulating neural dynamics at the cellular as well as the neural system level of analysis

+ Advance generative biophysical computational models to simulate drug effects in human

+ Establish methods for predicting the effect of a disease mechanism across levels of analysis, across both neuropsychiatry and neurodegeneration applications

+ Collaborate with the precision measures team to connect models and analytic approaches into the automated and scalable Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence Optimized (NAIO) platform.

+ Stay current with the evolving landscape of human multi-modal neuroimaging, computational neuroscience and gene expression methodologies and their applications in neuroscience and precision medicine.

+ Present findings to internal and external stakeholders, translating biophysical modeling approaches for informing mechanism for drug targets into insights accessible to non-technical audiences.

+ Foster strong partnerships with the Data Science & Digital Health team, collaborating on cross-functional projects to drive scientific innovation.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:

+ PhD in Physics, Neuroscience, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field with a focus on multi-modal neuroimaging and computational neuroscience.

+ At least 2 years of progressive experience with prior application in life sciences

+ Extensive background working hands-on deriving insights from human gene expression data and its applications for informing biophysical neural models

+ Extensive experience with developing computational tools and methods for human neuroimaging applications

+ Demonstrated publication record in leading journals with a focus on simulating neural drug effects using computational modeling approaches

+ Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to work across levels of analysis, spanning biophysical computational modeling at the cellular level to human system-level neuroimaging applications

+ Demonstrated capacity for independently driving innovation in computational neuroscience applications, following strategic guidance

+ Ability to clearly communicate technical work to a diverse audience is required.

+ Strong ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team setting, spanning expertise in data science, neuroscience and computational biology
