    Job Summary

    Maintains, operates and repairs air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

    Responsibilities

    + Maintains hermetically and semi-hermetically sealed compressor systems by using a hermetic compressor analyzer and electrical tester to isolate the malfunctioning part or parts enabling the mechanic to rebuild the system and place the unit back in service.

    + Services and maintains centrifugal and absorption chillers by removing and replacing motors, adjusts and inspects motor coolants as necessary, inspecting and correcting any malfunction in purges, removing and replacing tube bundles through which coolant is passed, and performing electrical repairs as required on systems relays and controls.

    + Recharges a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration systems by selecting the appropriate refrigerant and ensuring that all foreign matter is eliminated to provide optimum cooling capacity. This will include removing and cleaning of coils and repiping systems as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A minimum of three years experience in refrigeration repair, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated experience in silver-soldering; a working knowledge of refrigerants used in commercial and residential applications; demonstrated customer services skills; and oral and written communications skills required. Technical training in refrigeration and electrical controls preferred. Must be licensed, or receive licensing within six months of hire, by the Environmental Protection Agency to diagnose and repair air conditioning units using the freon recovery system.
