Job Summary
This position is open to students with Federal WORK - STUDY AWARDS starting summer or fall semester only.
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Student Assistant for Caring Connections: A Hope and Comfort in Grief Program.
The assistant will be responsible for a range of administrative duties, including data entry and general office support. In addition, you will serve as a point of contact for community members, responding to phone calls and emails with professionalism and empathy. The role also includes assisting staff with the coordination and delivery of program activities and events.
The student assistant may interact with individuals experiencing distress; however, they will be fully supported by experienced clinical staff who will provide guidance and appropriate supervision. This position is ideal for students pursuing studies in social work, psychology, public health, or a related field who are interested in community service and program administration.
Responsibilities
**Telephone tasks** :
1. With exceptional courtesy for the population we serve, respond to requests for information and participation in grief group programs.
2. Assist with offering information on other community resources.
3. Accurately assess prospective participants for appropriate group program.
4. Understand high-risk grief situations and refer emergencies to director or clinical staff immediately.
5. Accurately take messages for program staff and respond to bereavement calls.
Record keeping:
1. Maintain accurate intakes of group participants.
2. Maintain group census for records, facilitators and staff.
3. Update and maintain database of all participants, facilitators, funders and newsletter recipients.
Program support
1. Room setup on group nights.
2. Greeting participants on initial group session (if schedule permits)
3. Additional services at events (Seeds of Remembrance, Grief and the Holidays etc.) if schedule permits.
Office services
1. Routine word processing for newsletter and program correspondence
2. Order supplies as needed.
3. Logging of intake calls.
4. Timely report of personal hours worked.
Financial management:
1. Routine processing of group fees, receipts from sales, and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
Preferences
Students in a healthcare or mental healthcare major are ideal.
Spanish speaking ability a plus
