Posting Description
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE II, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), will develop test stations for testing CVD diamond response relevant to inertial and magnetic confinement fusion operation in hot, cold, magnetized and/or high radiation environments relevant to future fusion reactor operation; develop protocols for how to evaluate relevant properties of CVD diamond response; collect data; process and report results; be expected to present results for discussion in internal meetings, MSRC meetings, and national conferences, and to write results up for publication as appropriate. Initial research will be done using CVD diamonds routinely used with the particle Time-of-Flight (pTOF) detector on the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and/or CVD diamonds intended for use with the neutron camera on the SPARC tokamak under development by Commonwealth Fusion Systems. The Technical Associate will then work with collaborators within the MSRC framework to test new diamonds developed at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) and how their unique properties can be optimized to improve the response for fusion applications.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in nuclear science and engineering or related field and a minimum of four years of specialized experience with qualitative data analysis and research methods (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate); practical hands-on experience setting up and running experiments in a laboratory setting while following safe laboratory practices; working computer programming (e.g., python) proficiency for processing and analyzing recorded data; and data synthesis and presentation skills. PREFERRED: Master’s degree in a related field. Job #25028
Some travel will be required, including to conferences and for working with collaborators at the PPPL.
Salary Range: $60K-$80K, based on related experience and expertise.
