    Job Summary

    The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician – Non-Certified is responsible for assisting in the collection, processing, and maintenance of medical records to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of patient health information. This role performs document reconciliation, prepping, scanning, indexing, and monitoring of electronic medical record (EMR) workflows. The HIM Technician supports daily HIM operations and adheres to regulatory, compliance, and privacy standards as outlined by HIPAA and organizational policies.

    Essential Functions

    + Collects, prepares, scans, and indexes medical record documents for permanent storage in the electronic medical record (EMR), ensuring image quality and accuracy.

    + Completes daily chart reconciliation processes, verifying the receipt of discharged medical records and following up on missing documentation as needed.

    + Monitors and maintains Trigger Queues and Scan Reconciliation within 24 hours, ensuring timely processing of records.

    + Reviews and monitors other EMR workflow queues, prioritizing tasks and addressing backlogs under the direction of HIM leadership.

    + Identifies and reports discrepancies, incomplete records, or documentation errors to HIM leadership for resolution.

    + Assists with document retrieval and release of information processes, ensuring timely responses to internal and external requests.

    + Provides clerical and administrative support to HIM functions, including record retention, file maintenance, and audit preparation.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    + Complies with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    + Associate Degree or coursework in Health Information Management, Medical Office Administration, or a related field preferred

    + 0-1 years of experience in health information management, medical records, or healthcare clerical support required

    + Experience in document scanning, indexing, or electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Strong attention to detail and accuracy in document processing and medical record reconciliation.

    + Understanding of medical terminology, health information workflows, and HIM best practices.

    + Proficiency in EMR systems, document imaging software, and Microsoft Office applications.

    + Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.

    + Effective organizational and time management skills, ensuring timely completion of HIM tasks.

    + Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to identify and correct documentation errors.

    + Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced healthcare environment.

    Licenses and Certifications

    + RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician preferred or

    + RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator preferred
