Overview
Bowhead is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux System Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. This is a 100% onsite position located in Norco, CA. As a Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of our critical Linux-based infrastructure. Experience working within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities
• Systems Administrator administers and supports daily operational requirem• Linux Systems Administration: Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) including operating system installation, patching, and security hardening.
• Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all Linux-related issues, providing guidance and support to other team members.
• Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize system performance and stability.
• Security Management: Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems and data, including access controls, intrusion detection, and vulnerability scanning.
• Scripting and Automation: Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve complex system issues in a timely and effective manner.
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams (e.g., networking, security, development) to ensure seamless integration of systems and services.
• Backup and Recovery: Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
• Compliance: Ensure systems comply with relevant security standards and regulations.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a System Administrator with a strong focus on Linux systems.
• Deep understanding of Linux operating systems, including kernel configuration, system services, and security principles.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).
• Security+ certification or equivalent.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Desired:
• Experience working in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment.
• Experience with security compliance frameworks (e.g., STIGs, NIST).
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
• Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), CompTIA Linux+).
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the minimum Secret level.
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
