Job Description: Director of Finance (Contract / Contract-to-Hire)
Position Overview:
Our client, a nonprofit entity, is seeking a seasoned Director of Finance to join their team. This role is available due to the current Director of Finance retiring. Please note this is a Contract / Contract-to-Hire position. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in areas that includes unrestricted cash, loan accounting, managing Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL), and month-end close. This is an immediate need with a sense of urgency for onboarding. Fully Remote.
Position Details:
+ Job Type: Open to Temporary or Temp-to-Hire
+ Candidates seeking Temp-to-Hire must either be local to Chicago or be willing to relocate.
+ Onsite presence (for Chicago-based staff): 1 day per week, Wednesdays.
+ Hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST (Fully remote candidates must maintain CST working hours).
+ Duration: Temporary until a permanent hire is secured.
+ Start Date: ASAP.
+ Compensation: Up to $75/hour.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Director of Finance will focus on managing critical finance operations while aligning with GAAP standards and program compliance. Duties include but are not limited to:
+ Cash Management: Aggressively managing unrestricted cash in compliance with GAAP and program requirements (Highest priority).
+ Loan Accounting: Applying in-depth knowledge and expertise in loan accounting.
+ CECL Management: Overseeing Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) reserving processes, governance, and methodologies.
+ Month-End Close: Ensuring accuracy and timeliness in month-end close processes.
The Director of Finance will also oversee a team of four individuals.

+ 2nd Interview with CEO
Reporting Structure:
Final reporting lines will be determined but will report to the COO or CEO.
Requirements
Ideal Qualifications:
+ Education:
+ CPA and/or MBA preferred.
+ Experience:
+ Strong nonprofit background.
+ Expertise in GAAP.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in financial services (loan servicing experience a plus).
+ Prior experience in audit or governance, nice to have
+ Proficient in month-end close processes and financial analysis, required.
+ Technical Skills:
+ Experience with Sage Intacct and Solver software is a plus but not required.
