    The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) in Naples, Florida. The Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) is proficient in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. OT2 performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system.

    Core Job Functions:

    + Ophthalmic Technician 2 performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record.

    + Reason for visit

    + Tangent screen visual fields

    + Chief complaint

    + Basic ocular motility

    + History of present illness

    + Pupillary evaluation

    + Basic review of systems

    + Ocular surface assessment

    + Review systemic and ocular medications

    + Eye drop administration

    + Record allergies

    + Intraocular pressure such as Goldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care

    + Pharmacy information

    + Pachymetry

    + Family, social, medical, and ocular history

    + Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses

    + Visual acuity at distance and near

    + Color vision test

    + Lensometry

    + Stereopsis test

    + Manual refraction

    + Sensorimotor exam

    + Confrontational fields

    + Automated & manual perimetry

    + Humphrey visual fields

    + Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields

    + Amsler Grid visual fields

    + Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care.

    + Provides patient-centric care.

    + Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training.

    + Complies with regulations and maintain patient confidentiality. Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.

    + Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.

    + Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.

    + Meets daily productivity goals. Maintains JCAHPO certifications.

    + Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. Participates in assigned clinical research and maintain required certifications.

    + Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.

    + Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary.

    + Works evenings and weekends as needed.

    + Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients.

    + Facilitates motility exams. Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams.

    + Performs imaging including but not limited to fundus photos, OCTs, and Slit Lamp exams.

    + Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff.

    + Acts as a super-user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives.

    + Acts as preceptor and trainer for imaging team members Serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    High School diploma or equivalent

    Required Certification and Licensing:

    Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required.

    Experience:

    Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
