    What You’ll Be Doing:

    + Provides the staff with the education to effectively perform their job duties in the areas of medication administration, care of the people we support, and information on when and how to contact the nursing department when in need of assistance.

    + Will orient the Residential and Day Habilitation staff to the clinical policies and procedures regarding medication administration, documentation and recognizing abnormal signs and symptoms in the people we support.

    + Works with the Residential Nursing Supervisor and Training Manager involved in the planning and implementation of initial new hire education and continuing education.

    + Provides staff training through oral presentations and demonstrations in small to large group settings.

    Clinical Educator

    Position Summary:

    The Clinical Educator is responsible for the coordination and training of Agency staff in the Residential and Day Habilitation departments in relation to medical administration and medical treatment, agency clinical procedures and nursing department protocols. The Clinical Educator will ensure that staff are appropriately trained at time of hire and throughout their employment at the Agency to enable staff to properly care for the people we support.

    Reporting Relationship:

    The Clinical Educator will report to the Director of Clinical Services.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Provides the staff with the education to effectively perform their job duties in the areas of medication administration, care of the people we support, and information on when and how to contact the nursing department when in need of assistance.

    + Will orient the Residential and Day Habilitation staff to the clinical policies and procedures regarding medication administration, documentation and recognizing abnormal signs and symptoms in the people we support.

    + Works with the Residential Nursing Supervisor and Training Manager involved in the planning and implementation of initial new hire education and continuing education.

    + Works with the Residential Nursing Supervisor and Director of Clinical Services to ensure that all training materials are in compliance with internal policies and procedures and external regulations.

    + Provides staff training regarding medical administration at each New Hire Orientation. May be required to provide training outside of Orientation schedule based on needs of the program, training material, and recertification process/requirements. Travel may be required dependent on the training.

    + Provides staff training through oral presentations and demonstrations in small to large group settings.

    + Identifies additional learning resources that will aid in the staff members’ success.

    + Helps the staff to acquire appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes required to effectively care for the people we support.

    + Grades all tests and submits them to the training department.

    + Abides by Agency requirements, especially regarding ID badges and computerized charting.

    + Maintains current clinical competency and knowledge in nursing profession, as well as with people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

    + Completes all training as directed by The Arc Erie County

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing PLUS licensed and currently registered as an RN in New York State. Have at least one year of experience working with developmentally disabled students/persons.

    OR

    Associate’s Degree in Nursing PLUS licensed and currently registered as an RN in New York State. Have at least two years of experience working with developmentally disabled students/persons.

    PLUS

    Experience in training medical administration is preferred.

     

    Experience with systems such as Precision Care and QuickMar is preferred.

     

    Have a valid NYS license and reliable transportation. Travel within Erie County may be required dependent on training and needs of the department.

    Essential Job Functions:

    + Physical demands and Exposure Risk outlined on attached form (A)

     

    Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, sit, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, climb flight of stairs; Good physical strength and be able to lift/transfer a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted and is able to assist in two-three person lifts as necessary; Must be able to perform physical tasks outlined in the education program’s Safe Student Movement manual and/or the agency’s Safe Person Movement Program; Must have the ability to see, hear, listen, speak clearly, good motor coordination: grip, strength, eye-hand coordination

     

    + Mental Requirements:

     

    The ability to perform critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills, write in a clear, organized manner, show good judgment, independent action, prioritizing, following directions. Works independently, as well as cooperatively, with others. Be approachable, enthusiastic and meet job-related tasks accordingly

     

    + Human Relations Skills:

     

    The ability to communicate with individuals in a positive manner, both oral and written, serves as an appropriate role model for co-workers and program participants. Receive supervision instruction in a positive manner. Adhere to agency’s policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.

     

    + Equipment Operation:

     

    The ability to operate medical equipment such as nebulizers, suction devices and the like; ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, copier, fax machine, and laminator.

    + Demonstrates the agency values of integrity, respect, responsibility, trust, teamwork, positive attitude, learning and honesty in working with students (persons), families, colleagues and members of our community.

    + Good attendance is vital for the efficient and effective operation of quality programming and is an essential job function of this position.

    + In the event of weather, health or other emergency, staff may be REDEPLOYED as needed to provide necessary staffing coverage. This may include a redeployment/temporary reassignment to another physical location or line of business, i.e. Clinicians may be redeployed to temporarily work in an IRA, a school location or Day Hab site. This may be a remote or in-person assignment and will be determined based on the needs of the individuals we serve.

     

    This position is NON-EXEMPT from the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standard Act.
