13283BRJob Description:United States Steel Corporation is actively seeking a Labor Relations Representative. The Labor Relations Representative will serve as a critical liaison between management and union-represented employees at our Gary Works facility. This role is responsible for promoting constructive labor-management relations, administering the basic labor agreement (BLA), supporting grievance resolution processes, ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies, and fostering a positive, compliant workplace culture. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with a deep understanding of union environments and labor relations in a complex industrial setting.
Responsibilities:
+ Provide guidance and training to management on labor relations topics including discipline, contract interpretation, and dispute resolution.
+ Participate in collective bargaining preparation and negotiations, including research, strategy development, data analysis, and proposal drafting.
+ Interpret, administer, and ensure compliance with the terms of one or more collective bargaining agreements and many local memorandum of agreements. Represent management in all stages of the grievance procedure, including investigation, drafting responses, attending grievance meetings, and preparing and presenting arbitration cases. Research, analysis, and appropriate application of arbitration precedent
+ Negotiate settlements and local agreements as appropriate
+ Enforce corporate policies and rules
+ Ensure compliance with contracting out provisions
+ Act as primary on-site official contact/resource for all outside legal and litigation issues
+ Unemployment compensation claims
+ Investigate employee complaints and prepare detailed responses which include findings and recommend corrective actions when appropriate. Support compliance with applicable federal and state labor laws including NLRA, FMLA, FLSA, and EEO standards. Respond to outside agency complaints/charges (e.g. EEOC, NLRB, GHRC, Indiana Civil Right Commission)
+ Incentive administration, maintenance, and auditing
+ Labor and Overtime Control
+ Headcount tracking, reporting, and analysis
+ Interacts with HR support functions for transaction-based activities (ie: Oracle transactions, payroll transactions, government reporting, information requests, etc.)
Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations or a closely related field.
+ Juris Doctorate preferred
+ At least three years of experience in Labor Relations
+ Strong working knowledge of labor laws, union contracts, and grievance/arbitration procedures.
+ Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills necessary to handle sensitive issues tactfully and with absolute confidentiality.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft clear grievance responses, agreements, memos, and reports.
+ Strong organizational skills.
+ Ability to work in both individual and team settings.
+ Excellent analytical skills, particularly using Excel, necessary to analyze data, identify trends and draw reasonable conclusions.
+ Willingness to meet aggressive deadlines
+ This is an on-site role at a high-paced manufacturing operation; some off-hours and weekend availability may be required.
+ Occasional travel may be necessary for negotiations, training, or corporate meetings.
