    Description of Work Unit

    The Colorado State University Department of Athletics sponsors 16 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports and competes as a member of NCAA Division I ( FBS ). The University is a current member of the Mountain West Conference and future member of the Pac-12 Conference. The University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, 65 miles north of Denver.     Position Summary

    The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach (non-Football) is responsible for assisting the Head Olympic Strength & Conditioning Coach in all aspects of the strength and conditioning/weight training program for the institution’s NCAA Division I ( FBS ) men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics teams other than Football. Position will have general responsibilities for all sports, with primary responsibility in sports as assigned by Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree

    + Minimum of two years of demonstrated practical strength and conditioning experience in a broad-based intercollegiate athletics program required, preferably at the NCAA Division I level

    + Current CSCS and/or SCCC and CPR /First Aid certifications and/or demonstrates experience to respond appropriately in the case of injury or other health-related issue

    + Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, sports medicine, coaches, and other constituents regarding on-going issues and ascertain the difference between issues of confidentiality and best interests of the student-athlete

    + Ability to teach, train, and develop student-athletes to optimally perform the physical requirements necessary for success in competition

    + Understanding and knowledge of best practices in strength and conditioning including performance enhancement and injury prevention

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Master’s Degree or equivalent

    + Knowledge of NCAA rules/regulations and a commitment to the Department’s culture of compliance

    + Expertise and certification in current methods and strategies for intercollegiate strength and conditioning

    + Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date

    + Ability to work early morning, evenings, or weekends and ability to travel as needed for position to meet student-athlete and team sport performance needs.

    + Oversee all strength and conditioning functions for all student-athletes in assigned sports

    + Establish a philosophy and method of training that will maximize the athletic and competitive success of student-athletes

    + Demonstrate a wide variety of ability and knowledge in developing pre-season, in-season and off-season programs

    + Evaluate individual strengths and weaknesses of student-athletes and develop strategies to enhance performance

    + Design individualized work-out plans; implement testing programs; maintain appropriate records; monitor and determine effectiveness of programs

    + Establish and maintain productive channels of communication with head and assistant coaches

    + Demonstrate an ability to positively influence and motivate student-athletes

    + Work proactively with other members of the Sports Performance staff in the overall development and well-being of student-athletes including collaborating on wellbeing issues such as health, nutrition, rehabilitation of injuries, and academic performance

    + Provide a safe training environment with programming consistent with current science and best practice in order to maximize student-athlete success.

    + Maintain weight room, offices and equipment to include proper cleaning and repair in conformity with health and safety expectations

    + Ensure professional appearance of facility for recruiting purposes

    + Assist with recruiting visits of prospective student-athletes

    + Ensure proper supervision of student-athletes, including instruction on safe use of all equipment

    + Assist with the supervision of students, interns and/or graduate assistants

    + Maintain an environment of mutual respect and civility in the weight room that is conductive to a supportive, productive and healthy atmosphere for both male and female student-athletes

    + Ensure compliance with department, University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
