    Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedResearch Assistant, Health Equity, Institute of Gerontologyat its Detroit campus location.

    Position Purpose:

    The Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University seeks a full-time research assistant to work with Dr. Rodlescia Sneed on research projects focused on advancing health equity in diverse population of older adults. Current projects examine 1) the health and well-being of mid and late-life adults with a history of incarceration, 2) the implications of intergenerational relationships for minority aging, and 3) the impact of health policy changes on access to care for adults over 50. The successful candidate will have an interest in social determinants of health and will join an interdisciplinary health research team that is conducting innovative policy-relevant work on health disparities in mid- and late-life.

    Essential Functions:

    Conduct literature reviews to support projects and proposals.

     

    Assist with submission of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

     

    Participate in the collection, cleaning, analysis, and review of research, operational, and evaluation data.

     

    Submit IRB (Institutional Review Board) protocols and modifications.

     

    Assist with study recruitment and participant scheduling.

     

    Attend and coordinate project meetings.

     

    Maintain team website.

     

    Assist with purchasing and monitoring of research expenditures.

     

    Maintain study databases.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Psychology, Life Sciences, Social Work or related field.

     

    Discipline : Public Health, Psychology, Life Sciences, Social Work

     

    Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience). One to two years of human subject research experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Experience with submission of IRB protocols and related correspondence.

     

    Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner.

     

    Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in Public Health, Life Sciences, Psychology, Social Work or related field.

The research assistant must be available for occasional evening travel to study sites within one hour of the Wayne State campus (roughly one day per month).
