BASIC FUNCTION: To enhance the efficient and business like operations of the transportation department garage. To direct the maintenance and repair of all school vehicles. To supervise all facets of maintenance, repair and service facility operations to support the efficient operations of the school district.QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent; public relations skills; ability to effectively and efficiently organize, motivate and supervise others; ability to make decisions; record and account keeping skills; and ability to acquire and maintain a commercial driver’s license. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years in a full time supervisory capacity; minimum of five years of fleet mechanic experience; experience with maintenance and fleet recordkeeping; knowledge of computers preferred; experience with diesel equipment; experience with Allison transmissions, and experience in garage and trucking operations. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:Acquire and maintain a current knowledge of all roads, streets and school boundaries within the District.Assist in the assessing of road and weather conditions.Schedule maintenance and repairs of all vehicles in order to keep all vehicles in safe operational condition.Schedule preventive maintenance on all vehicles.Supervise all garage personnel and truck drivers.Act as liaison between garage personnel, bus and truck drivers.Perform mechanical work on school vehicles when necessary.Trouble shoot mechanical problems of school vehicles.Supervise on-road repairs and vehicle recovery operations.Maintain an efficient and safe operation of garage, service facilities, and bus lot.Assist in determining inventory requirements and parts and supply purchasing.Prepare all vehicles for State Inspection.Comply with all State, Federal and Local regulations and inspections of vehicles and service facilities.Keep complete records on all school vehicles and equipment.Assist in preparation of budget and administration of accounts related to areas of responsibility.Assist with the development of school bus and vehicle specifications.Assume responsibility for assigned reports, correspondence, telephone and radio communications.Acquire and maintain a current knowledge of School District and State regulations relating to student transportation.Supervise, in conjunction with the Transportation Manager, garage, truck driver and bus driver training.Assist in the hiring and placement of employees.Coordinate, with the dispatcher, the schedule of bus assignments, maintenance, road-call service, and field and/or activity trip bus scheduling.Coordinate with the Operation Supervisor the use of buses and equipment for special needs students.Assist in evaluations of garage, truck driver and bus drivers.Demonstrate a commitment to multicultural nonsexist policies and practices.Perform such additional duties as may be requested by the Transportation Manager.CONTRACT: 12 Months, approx. $76,000 with excellent benefit package
