    Position Description:

    A full-time medical physics position is immediately available for a Medical Physicist at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at Magee-Womens Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. The center is equipped with Varian 23iX linac with kV OBI/CBCT and Rapid Arc and with Varian Halcyon linac. The Elekta Nucletron system is used for Brachytherapy planning and delivery. Also, Siemens Somatom Go Open Pro dual energy CT scanner is used for CT simulation. Eclipse RTP with ARiA information system is used for treatment planning and information and image management system.

     

    The center has a very strong CT and MRI imaging based HDR brachytherapy program and Halcyon linac based SBRT program. There is a strong emphasis on research. Primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: regular quality assurance testing and dosimetry calibration of radiation therapy equipment, SBRT treatment planning, brachytherapy treatment planning and delivery, dosimetry and clinical implementation of intensity modulated radiation therapy, implementation of 4D CT and gated radiation therapy. Participation and/or investigator initiated clinical research is expected. The successful candidate will have a full support of the Medical Physics Division. The Division’s goal has been to expand its strong clinical program in physics with emphasis on 4D CT, organ motion management, IMRT SBRT, HDR gynae and prostate brachytherapy and IGRT and research in these areas and other areas of interest to the candidate. Successful candidate should have demonstrated clinical skills in these areas and is expected to function independently with excellent oral and written communication skills. The Board certification and at least three years of clinical experience are preferred but not required.

    Facility and Equipment:

    UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is a leading organization in the nation in conducting academic research and clinical implementation of various state of the art technologies in radiation therapy. The network’s Cancer Centers are equipped predominantly with Varian linear accelerators with on board kV imaging, cone beam CT and Rapid Arc capabilities and also with RefleXion X1 and Elekta linear accelerators. Other equipment includes Siemens and GE CT units and PET/CT simulators (with 4D capability), Gamma Knife units, Nucletron HDR systems, Varian VariSeed LDR prostate brachytherapy, Eclipse treatment planning system, and Aria, and Mosaiq information management systems. Treatment planning system is integrated at all sites allowing for connectivity and remote planning.

    Employment Environment:

    UPMC Hillman Cancer Center has twenty-four facilities in Pennsylvania and Western Maryland, two Cancer Centers in Ireland and two Cancer Centers in Italy, and one in Croatia. Efforts have been underway to expand UPMC’s international presence to other countries. This present position comes with the faculty appointment level and salary commensurate with the candidate’s qualification and experience.     Responsibilities:

    + Provide interpretation/consultation to the Radiation Oncologist on basis of in-vivo dosimetry.

    + Obtain and disseminate information pertaining to current practices within the field of Radiation Oncology Physics.

    + Collaborate with other UPCI Physicists in Radiation Therapy related research in the Division of Medical Physics.

    + Manage the in-vivo dose measurement and use of measuring devices for verification of dose delivery to patients.

    + Assist in the clinical practice of Radiation Oncology Physics and dosimetry.

    + Direct the design, fabrication, and measurement of treatment beam modifiers and treatment aids.

    + Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of all treatment-related equipment.

    + Provide consultation to the Radiation Oncologist on the physical and radiobiological aspect of treatment.

    + Maintain a comprehensive quality assurance program that ensures patients are provided tumor localization, radiation treatment, and dose distributions as prescribed.

    + Manage the systematic measurement, documentation, and assurance of the physical aspects of all radiation sources/devices used in Radiation Oncology.

    + Manage the development of treatment plans, acquisition and storage of data for treatment plans, calculation of dose distributions and machine settings for treatment delivery.

    + Translate the desired treatment plan into a set of instructions for radiation therapists to execute.

    + Develop and document performance specifications, testing, tolerances, and frequency of testing for all therapy equipment.

    + Required – M.S. or Ph.D. Degree in Physics or Medical Physics.

    + ABR/ABMP Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Therapeutic Radiology is preferred but not required.
