    Position Summary

    This role supports the preparation and processing of clay for dinnerware production, including batching, mixing, and extruding clay according to specific recipes and production needs. It involves operating machinery such as mixers, pug mills, and forklifts, while maintaining quality control, cleanliness, and accurate production records. The position also provides backup support across claymaking tasks and contributes to a safe, efficient work environment.

    Responsibilities

    Clay Preparation & Mixing

     

    + Batch tile clay according to recipes; operate tile mixers and pug mills safely

    + Prepare and label material bins; follow clay orders for tile production

    + Run the Alar daily and assist with tooling setup on pug mills

     

    Quality & Process Control

     

    + Check clay quality regularly (e.g., hardness, air, delamination)

    + Understand pug mill operation and assist as needed

    + Maintain accurate production records

    •​​​​​​ Material Handling & Equipment

    + Safely operate the Heath forklift

    + Unload clay shipments and assist with haul backs

     

    Work Area Standards

     

    + Maintain a clean and safe claymaking area

    + Set up and prepare tables of clay for production

     

    Team Support

     

    + Provide backup support across tasks as needed

     

    Qualifications and Experience

     

    + Forklift certification

    + Good time management skills

    + Desire to work in a plant environment and to be “hands-on”

    + Great people skills: must be patient, flexible, and calm

    + Excellent communication skills

    + Great attention to detail

    + Ability to follow strict safety guidelines

     

    Physical Requirements (Heavy)

     

    + The ability to transport clay, finished goods, and other production materials (up to 35 lbs. at a time). The total weight lifted per day can be 3500 to 5000 lbs.

    + Pulling and pushing carts

    + Standing for 90% of the day

    + Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling.

     

    Work Environment/ Hours / Compensation

     

    This position is a temporary, 3-month assignment with the possibility of extension. The position is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site role at our Sausalito Factory & Showroom. The hours for this position are 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The rate for this position is $25.00/hr.
