    Job Title: Part-Time Communications Coordinator (0.4 FTE)

    Duration: One-year placement (2025–2026), with funding to be re-evaluated for 2026–2027

    Position Overview

    We’re seeking a part-time Communications Coordinator to support the district’s Communications Department in maintaining a strong, consistent presence across our communication channels. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in public education communications while enjoying the flexibility to balance other responsibilities.

     

    As a key member of a high-performing team, this position will help project manage communications work, maintain a shared content calendar, and assist with writing and editing content—especially for our district website and regular newsletters.

     

    A complete application will include submitting the following samples in which the applicant created or contributed to the development and/or implementation:

    + Writing sample

    + Printed or digital material/collateral (e.g., publication, communication plan)

    Key Responsibilities

    + Support the coordination and upkeep of the communications content calendar and project management tools

    + Help track deadlines, plan ahead, and ensure communications projects stay on schedule

    + Draft, revise, and publish content for a variety of platforms, including the district website, regular community newsletters and internal staff updates

    + Collaborate with team members to organize and maintain shared messaging, templates, and tools

    + Assist with other communications-related projects and writing needs as they arise

    Qualifications

    + Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and timelines

    + Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills

    + Comfort working in digital platforms such as websites, newsletters, and shared calendars

    + Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

    + Experience with communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field is preferred but not required

    + A growth mindset and interest in learning about public education communications

    + Bachelor's degree in Communications, public relations or another closely related field and/or 2 years of experience working in communications or public relations

    Position Details

    + FTE: 0.4 (Approximately 16 hours/week)

    + Schedule: Flexible within typical business hours, with some remote work possible

    + Compensation: $39.98/hr. (approx. $33,263 annually)

     

    Duration: This is a one-year position for the 2025–26 school year. Funding for 2026–27 is not yet guaranteed.

     

    It is understood that the district has the right to transfer and assign employees to best fit the needs of the district.

    Benefits/Compensation:

    Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement.     Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits.     Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. Detailed information can be found here (https://www.drs.wa.gov/) .

     

    Time Off: Vancouver Public Schools offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, and bereavement leave.

     

    + Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).

    + Personal Leave: 3 days per school year

    + Twelve (12) month full-time Pro Tech employees are eligible to accrue ten (10) days vacation at one (1) - five (5) years of service. The accrual days are incrementally improved by five (5) days at the completion of five (5), eleven (11) and twenty (20) consecutive years of service respectively.
