Description

AWS is looking for world class scientists and engineers to join Agentic AI science team to develop groundbreaking generative AI technologies like Amazon Q and CodeWhisperer.

Our scientists push boundaries in pre-training and post-training large language models for agentic coding tasks and beyond to invent creative solutions. You will invent, implement, and deploy state-of-the-art machine learning solutions at Amazon scale, having a direct impact on revolutionary products used by millions. You will make breakthroughs that challenge the limits of AI and machine learning while collaborating with leading academics and interacting directly with customers to bring new research rapidly to production. You will publish your work at top Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing conferences.

Key job responsibilities

As an Applied Science Intern, you will have access to large datasets with billions of images and video to build large-scale machine learning systems. Additionally, you will analyze and model terabytes of text, images, and other types of data to solve real-world problems and translate business and functional requirements into quick prototypes or proofs of concept.

We are looking for smart scientists capable of using a variety of domain expertise combined with machine learning and statistical techniques to invent, design, evangelize, and implement state-of-the-art solutions for never-before-solved problems.

About the team

Our mission is to create groundbreaking code-focused AI agents that will transform the way developers work. From intelligent code completion (CodeWhisperer) to automated code reviews and pull request generation, we are pioneering innovative solutions that streamline and enhance the coding process.

As an Applied Scientist on our team, you'll have the opportunity to push the boundaries of machine learning techniques, developing scalable and generalizable solutions for complex real-world coding challenges at AWS scale. Your research will directly impact thousands of enterprise customers, empowering developers worldwide with advanced AI-powered tools.

Basic Qualifications

* Early Career PhD, or Master's degree and 3+ years of applied research experience

* Experience programming in Python, Java, C++ or related language

* Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning

* Experience with training language models at scale

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with LLM pre-training, fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, and benchmarking

* First-authored publications at top tier machine learning conferences, e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, NAACL.

* Familiarity with distributed training and acceleration method/implementation/library for LLMs or large-scale ML in general, e.g., Nemo-Megatron, PyTorch Lightning, and verl.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
