General Requirements:

Associates degree in a related field. Three years of experience in medical billing, charge entry, coding, and claims follow-up, ideally within a multi-specialty group that focuses on family medicine, pediatrics, osteopathic manipulative medicine ( OMM ), mental health, and X-ray services. Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance is highly desirable, along with proficiency in Current Procedural Terminology ( CPT ) coding, International Classification of Diseases ( ICD -10) diagnosis codes, and general medical billing processes. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Performs advanced specialist duties to verify medical charges by accurately translating medical procedures into codes that can be translated by payers and other medical professionals. Ensures timely and accurate processing of medical claims, follow-up of unpaid or underpaid claims and managing patient accounts.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Performs specialist duties. Responsible for charge entries and approvals, claim submissions, appealing unpaid claims with payers, patient accounts and collections, and medical record submissions to support medical necessity of services. Performs various collection actions including contacting payers and patients. Accurate posting of payments and other payer responses on ledgers. Performs other related duties as assigned.
