    Continuing Education at the University of Colorado is encouraging applications for the Assistant Director for Student Success position! The Division of Continuing Education (CE) at CU Boulder provides quality, innovative, lifelong learning opportunities for a diverse student population by extending the educational resources of the university to the Boulder community, the State of Colorado, and beyond. The Student Services department within CE includes 15 professional staff members representing a variety of student-facing roles ranging from enrollment support to advising and coaching services. Student Services provides academic, career, and pre-health advising and coaching in a student-/client-centered environment that respects nontraditional paths. We offer accurate information, creative solutions, and compassion to help people identify their options and make informed decisions about their academic and professional journeys. We also contribute our knowledge and resources to the professional advising and coaching community at large.

     

    The Assistant Director for Student Success is a leadership position within Student Services. The Assistant Director is responsible for leading the Student Success team, which includes two academic advisors, one academic coach, and one career advisor. In addition to supervising, developing, and supporting the Student Success team, the Assistant Director collaborates closely with CE faculty, addresses elevated student situations, and represents Student Services on cross-campus committees. Through their leadership role, the Assistant Director promotes a positive, collaborative environment and helps to create a safe space for students and staff.

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    _Student Success Team Supervision and Leadership:_

    + Supervise a team of professional staff who provide direct student support across a variety of roles.

    + Support the Student Success team in developing and maintaining student success initiatives and programming (Resiliency Program, the Canvas Academic Skills Resource, etc.), helping team members stay accountable and in alignment with Student Services values.

    + Facilitate regular Student Success team meetings to problem-solve student situations, work on team goals and staff development, and provide updates as needed.

    + Collaborate with Enrollment Services and other CE teams to troubleshoot challenging situations and to create a positive student experience.

    + Evaluate and respond to available advising and coaching data regarding student outcomes and feedback.

    + Ensure staff maintain an appropriate number of appointments each week to meet student needs.

    + Train, coach, mentor, challenge, and support Student Success team members through regular one-on-ones and in unscheduled conversations.

    + Support ongoing training, professional development, and recognition for team members.

    + Develop and monitor performance plans and conduct annual evaluations for each team member consistent with University and Division policies, providing honest and ongoing feedback.

    + Respond to advanced concerns from students, members of the students' support networks, and advisors and coaches within the team.

    _Department Support and Administration:_

    + Meet regularly with the Director of Student Services to develop and lead initiatives to support student success.

    + Serve as a member of the Student Services leadership team, which problem-solves unique situations, discusses supervision processes, and ensures equitable practices and policies across Student Services teams.

    + Develop and maintain communication plans tailored to various CE student populations; send regular communications through the Canvas Academic Skills Resource.

    + Conduct assessment of Student Success advising/coaching services and student programming, making adjustments as needed.

    + Represent the Student Success team at the Enrollment Services & Records (ESR) weekly meeting, bringing issues to ESR as they arise and sharing information learned in ESR with the Student Success team.

    + Serve on CE Academic Policies & Procedures Committee, which evaluates and updates Division policies and procedures to ensure they are equitable and student-centered.

    _Academic Advising:_

    + Provide individual appointments to prospective, current, and former non-degree and degree students, especially during busy seasons.

    + Serve as a supplemental advisor for all majors across campus, referring students to their primary advisor as appropriate.

    + Assist both degree and non-degree students in formulating their educational goals and outlining the University requirements and procedures required to meet those goals.

    + Provide well-rounded support to students in a disarming and non-judgmental way.

    + Connect students with resources and student support services as appropriate (career advising, mental health counseling, academic skills development, financial aid advising, etc.).

    + Support non-degree and degree-seeking students on academic suspension and academic dismissal by identifying resources, options, and pathways toward reinstatement.

    _Liaison:_

    + Serve as the primary point of contact for CE faculty and staff regarding advising and coaching activities, student concerns, and resource referrals.

    + Maintain regular communication with the Office of Financial Aid liaison, exchanging updates and sharing information about student trends or concerns that may arise.

    + Cultivate strong relationships with campus advisors and student support staff.

    + Contribute to initiatives to increase non-degree student success.

    + Provide trainings and presentations to campus partners regarding the unique role of CE on the CU Boulder campus.

    _Professional Development and Engagement:_

    + Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and engagement by participating in professional associations, conferences, webinars, etc. and/or pursuing formal education that supports performance of your responsibilities and the goals of the organization.

    + Serve on campus-wide committees that address issues relevant to CE students, with a particular eye toward degree completers, transfer students, international students, and wellness and retention.

    What You Should Know

    + The work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday. Typical hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position will work a hybrid format, with some days each week remote and at least three days in person.

    What We Can Offer

    + The starting salary for this position is $76,602-$86,000 annually.

    What We Require

    + Master's degree or graduate certificate.

    + 3+ years of direct student-facing experience in academic advising, career advising, academic coaching, or a related field.

    + 1+ year of experience supervising a team of professional staff.

    + 1+ year of professional experience at a public higher education institution.
