Position Summary:
The certified strength and conditioning specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The Strength and Conditioning Specialist devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates fitness level of athletes, maintains athlete records, and teaches strength and conditioning classes as needed.
Education, License & Cert:
The incumbent must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in exercise science or related field while possessing current National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. Current BLS certification for the professional mandated.
Experience:
Education/experience in development and providing strength and conditioning programs with adolescent population preferred. Strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training. Must demonstrate strong motivational abilities as well as conflict resolution skills and ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues and the public.
Essential Functions:
1. Communicates and demonstrate a professional image/attitude for patients, families, clients, athletic directors, coaches, coworkers, and others.
2. Establish, develop, maintain, and supervise strength and conditioning programs for student athletes with the goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. Includes devising training plans according to sound scientific principles.
3. Work with coaches to develop and implement effective and appropriate training and conditioning programs for student athletes. Supervise training sessions and evaluate fitness level of athletes while maintaining appropriate records.
4. Meet regularly with school officials (coaches and sports medicine staff) to address any program needs or concerns.
5. Establish policies and procedures for safe and professional operation of the facility while ensuring appropriate equipment operation and infection control of facility.
6. Protects patient/student confidentiality at all times.
7. Projects a positive image of Guthrie facilities, staff, providers, and services while interacting professionally with the entire team and community.
8. Periodically review athlete health history and provide status of an injury/illness to school nurse and or athletic trainer (if student in a sport) with regards to current participation status.
9. Participates in continuing education/professional development activities to maintain competency by attending/presenting at departmental in‐service sessions as scheduled.
10. Adhere to policies, guidelines and professional code of ethics established by Guthrie and the Sports Medicine Department by acting according to contents of employee /handbook, departmental Policy & Procedure, and all hospital policies. Must maintain competency, the competency/skills assessment is satisfactorily completed annually.
Other Duties:
1. Other duties as assigned.
2. All equipment and duties within the sports medicine department as listed on the Competency Checklist.
The pay range for this position is $21.46 - $34.47/hr
