    This position oversees the department of Environment, Safety, and Emergency Management to ensure compliance and implementation of health and safety programs for all employees, staff, and others (the workforce) across the Seattle Children's Enterprise. Under the direction of the Vice President, Facilities and Capital Projects collaborates and consults with Risk Management, Workforce Health & Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, Facilities Management, and Patient Safety Departments. This position interfaces with external State government agencies such as Washington Labor & Industries and Ecology, Washington State Fire Marshall, Seattle Fire Department, and leads in the NIAHO® Accreditation Requirements for the Physical Environment for compliance as well as other programs such as hearing conservation, ergonomics and respiratory protection to maintain a safe environment for staff, patients and families.

     

    The Director will develop, manage, and evaluate work environments and work processes to ensure employee, staff, and visitor safety across Seattle Children's organization. Ensures effective program development, manages, collaborates and evaluates a wide variety of programs to reduce work-related risks, illnesses and injuries through engineering, administrative controls or implementation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Participates in education efforts for workforce health, safety and environment safety. Develops and implements effective strategies for staff onboarding and education.

     

    Supports Quality and Safety team in sharing best practice within and outside Seattle Children's Enterprise to enhance and promote our values of excellence and safety. Collaborates with organizational leaders to accomplish the mission and goals of the employee health and safety program. Integrates and utilizes the IHI Model for Improvement and Continuous Innovation and Improvement (CII) methodology to promote excellence in clinical care and service.

    Required Education and Experience

    + Master's degree in a health-related field (i.e., MN, MHA, MBA, MPH).

    + Minimum of five (5) years management and/or administrative experience in a hospital or health care setting.

    + A combination of experience, education, and training that substantially demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities in hospital-based role involving Emergency Management, Safety systems management, compliance, safety, patient safety.

    Preferred

    + Advanced coursework with emphasis in Occupational and Environmental Health, Safety, or related field.

    + FEMA course certifications: IS.100, IS.200, ICS.300, ICS 400, IS.700, IS.800.

    + Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) Certification.

    + Certification in Healthcare Environmental Health and Safety.

    + Experience working with the DNV, CMS, Washington L&I, The Joint Commission (TJC), OSHA, and other regulatory & professional standards agencies.

    + Experience in pediatrics and/or an academic medical setting.

    + Familiar with the IHI Model for Improvement and Continuous Innovation and Improvement (CII) methodology.

     

    Compensation Range

     

    $139,486.00 - $209,228.00 per year

     

    Salary Information

     

    This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
