POSITION DETAILS
The CUNY School of Law is the premier public interest law school in the country. The Financial Aid Manager plays a crucial leadership role in the management and delivery of financial aid services, ensuring regulatory compliance, and implementing federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. This position manages all financial aid programs adhering to the latest Federal/State laws and University policies. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Enrollment Management & Financial Services, the Financial Aid Manager will assist in the development of strategic goals while also managing staff and overseeing the administration of the Financial Aid Office.
In addition to the position summary and the CUNY Title Overview, other key duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Oversee the administration of federal, state, and institutional aid programs, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
• Guide financial aid strategies and collaborate with campus departments to support the Law School's enrollment and retention goals.
• Manage financial aid processing operations, including needs analysis, packaging, verification, disbursement, and reconciliation.
• Interpret and implement regulatory updates, stay abreast of legislative updates ensuring timely communication to stakeholders (e.g. students, colleagues, etc.),
• Lead or participate in strategic initiatives, including process improvements, technology implementations, and policy development.
• Serve as a primary contact for escalated student and parent inquiries, resolving complex financial aid issues with professionalism and sensitivity.
• Leverage systems (e.g. CUNYfirst) to conduct detailed analysis of the financial aid process with the goal of improving the efficiency and accuracy of financial assistance delivery; generate projections and streamline reconciliation efforts.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate financial aid staff; foster a collaborative and service-oriented team culture that encourages professional development
• Regularly audit and update financial aid policies and procedures, lead audit and compliance reviews
Nights and weekends may be required.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Like other staff in the Law School, you are subject to the same in-person requirements, which entail a minimum of 70% in-person on-campus presence over two weeks. This requirement for in-person work may be higher than 70% based on departmental and divisional needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.
PREFERRED: The ideal candidate should have:
• Expert management of federal and state financial aid programs and processes, including compliance with regulations and current trends.
• Experience with state and federal reporting.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient in financial systems and industry-specific software and databases
• Proficient in the use of academic systems, databases, and programs, plus Microsoft Office 365 programs, and remote/virtual meeting/conferencing and collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx, Skype, etc.)
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Plans, develops and implements financial aid policies and processes in accordance with Federal, State and University standards.
- Manages financial aid activities and represents the office at on-campus and off-campus meetings and forums
- Manages day-to day administrative and systems operations for optimal efficiency and customer service; manages special processes such as Return of Title IV Aid
- Provides comprehensive financial counseling to parents and students
- Implements all necessary processes to support financial aid application, awarding and delivery cycles
- Oversees the coordination of financial aid activities with those of other College and University offices
- Implements and maintains web based services
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

_CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement._
