Minimum qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

+ 8 years of experience in software development.

+ 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

+ 5 years of experience building and deploying recommendation systems models (retrieval, prediction, ranking, embedding) in production and experience building architecture in different modeling domains.

+ 5 years of experience with ML design and ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).

Preferred qualifications:

+ Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

+ 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.

+ 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

+ 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

The App Basics team is a core part of Google Messages, responsible for delivering a seamless and engaging messaging experience to active users. The team is responsible for key user journeys within Google Messages, including message consumption, replying, sharing rich media, and expressive features. This Smarts subteam within this team focuses on applying ML to enhance these experiences.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. + Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.

+ Lead a team to innovate using new ML/GenAI opportunities to enhance the messaging experience.

+ Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines. Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.

+ Define, refine, and execute the foundational tech strategy for applying ML techniques to reduce friction and increase delight in core user journeys in the Google Messages app.
