    Title of Position: Academic Intervention Lead (AIL), Win Tutoring Program

     

    Department: Program Support Services

     

    Reports to: Program Director

     

    Direct Reports: After School Tutors

     

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

     

    Salary: $60,000 - $65,000

    Key Accountabilities:

    Academic Program Leadership

    • Design and implement tutoring schedules and academic intervention strategies.

    • Ensure alignment with educational standards and trauma-informed practices.

    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of tutoring sessions.

    Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring

    • Develop and apply assessment tools to identify student needs and track academic progress.

    • Collaborate with tutors to tailor instruction based on assessment data.

    Tutor Management & Development

    • Recruit, train, and supervise after-school tutors. • Provide coaching and professional development, including trauma-informed care practices. • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.

    Family & Community Engagement

    • Coordinate monthly parent learning sessions on topics like literacy and navigating school systems.

    • Build strong relationships with parents and shelter staff to support student learning at home.

    • Partner with local schools, libraries, and educational nonprofits to enhance program resources.

    Program Evaluation & Reporting

    • Collaborate with the Program Director and RESL team to track program implementation.

    • Contribute to data collection, reporting, and strategic learning sessions.

    Safe & Inclusive Learning Environment

    • Promote a welcoming, culturally responsive, and emotionally safe space for students.

    • Support tutors in applying SEL and trauma-sensitive teaching strategies.

    Communication & Coordination

    • Maintain open communication with the program team and Win leadership.

    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to program planning and improvement.

    Essential Functions

    • Must be able to travel to Win pilot sites across East Harlem to oversee tutoring sessions and to Win’s headquarter when needed.

    • Must be able to move around shelter and school environments, including walking, standing, and navigating stairs or elevators as needed.

    • Must be able to attend and actively participate in team meetings which may involve sitting for extended periods and using a computer or other digital tools.

    • Must be able to operate a computer, tablet, or similar device for communication, planning, and reporting purposes.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or related field (Master’s preferred).

    • 3–4 years of experience in academic intervention, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

    • Knowledge of literacy and numeracy intervention strategies.

    • Commitment to educational equity and Win’s mission.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in Education in Emergencies (EiE).

    • Background working with underserved youth or in shelter settings.

    • Proficiency in Spanish.

    • Experience with trauma-informed educational practices.

    Core Competencies:

    • Facilitating Change: Assist in overcoming resistance to change. Inspire and motivate others. Develop and meet challenging but achievable goals with the clients’ well-being in mind.

    • Managing Performance: Monitor performance against predetermined standards set by Win and funders. Share constructive feedback, quickly adjust to new demands. Holds self and staff accountable for performance at high standards.

    • Applying and Developing Expertise: Take client issues to the appropriate people within the organization to obtain the most accurate information to meet customer needs. Apply technical knowledge to solve a range of problems. Understands and upholds all policies and procedures described in the Win Employee Handbook.

    • Collaborating and Communicating: Values the full spectrum of diversity and inclusion for clients and staff. Listens well and actively engages with others with honesty and integrity.
