Description of Duties:
This is a grant funded position. -Purification of eukaryotic ribosomes, tRNA, native and recombinant translation factors and other ribosome-associated proteins. Design of vectors for transcription of defined mRNAs and for expression of recombinant proteins. -Assay the activities and interactions of individual components in in vitro reconstituted steps of translation and of eukaryotic ribosome-associated quality control processes. -Preparation of data for presentation and publication; reading relevant scientific literature.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED: 1. Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Molecular Biology or Molecular Biochemistry/Chemistry. 2. Practical research experience in (a) biochemistry (purification of native/recombinant proteins, structural and/or functional analysis of proteins & RNA-protein complexes and (b) molecular biology. 3. Seeking a candidate with the education, training and experimental ability to develop biochemical/molecular approaches to characterize stages in translation and ribosome-associated quality control processes. PREFERRED: Experience in using biochemical, molecular biological and structural approaches to investigating aspects of translation and of ribosome-associated quality control processes, including mRNA surveillance, ribosome recycling and degradation of aberrant translation products.
