Additional years of experience in animal care within a medical setting, including both small and large animal services

Summary
The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is now accepting applications for the position of Manager, Clinical Support – Overnight Emergency and Critical Care. This is a working overnight manager position that provides hands-on support to the Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) department during evening, overnight, and weekend hours. The role is critical to ensuring 24/7 operational continuity, team leadership, client communication, and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
+ Serve as the on-site overnight manager, actively supporting ECC staff and assisting with clinical operations during overnight hours.
+ Oversee clinical service activities and staffing of veterinary technicians, animal caretakers, student workers, veterinary teaching hospital assistants (receptionist) and assist with client service coverage as needed.
+ Ensure a seamless transition between day and overnight operations by collaborating with ECC day-shift management and other hospital departments.
+ Provide guidance and address client service concerns during overnight hours; escalate issues appropriately to the Manager of Client Relations or hospital administration.
+ Contribute to large animal service operations, offering coordination and support for after-hours cases and assisting with staff scheduling.
+ Lead staff-related efforts including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management.
+ Monitor and report equipment, inventory, and facility needs, submitting requests and collaborating with the Associate Director of Hospital Operations as needed.
+ Ensure adequate after-hours, weekend, and holiday staffing, including stepping in to support urgent operational needs or staff questions.
+ Actively foster a positive, inclusive work environment that emphasizes communication, accountability, and compassionate care.
The successful candidate must possess a strong working knowledge of veterinary technical duties, experience in hospital operations, and the ability to coordinate services efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, organizational abilities, and a commitment to maintaining professionalism and confidentiality are essential. This individual must be capable of independent decision-making and team collaboration, while providing leadership and support across multiple service areas.
