+ Assist Costume Shop Manager in the organization and maintenance of the Costume Shop and costume storage in the Department of Theatre Arts warehouse facilities (30%)
+ Maintain a safe and clean workspace.
+ Prepare the shop area for staff, lab students, and designers.
+ Pull and transport costumes from the department’s warehouse.
+ Maintain industrial and domestic sewing machines, irons, steamers, washing machines, and dryers.
+ Maintain all small shop equipment and supplies including sewing notions, paints, detergent, dye powder, scissors, rulers, and measuring tapes.
+ Maintain all safety equipment, including respirators and latex gloves.
+ Organize the Jerry Herman Theatre costume shop, shoe stockroom, Theatre Arts Building costume facilities, and department warehouse.
+ Oversee dry cleaning.
+ Serve as contact for air conditioning, water supplies, and any other costume shop facility needs.
+ Participate in the management of the costume shop maintenance budget.
+ Assist in the ordering of costume shop supplies and materials.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Assist Costume Designer and Costume Shop Manager in the construction, pulling, fitting, and alteration of costumes for Department of Theatre Arts productions and events (40%)
+ Refer to sketches and drawings created by the Costume Designer to construct costumes.
+ Create patterns, either by draping or flat pattern making.
+ Research period, style, and techniques required to meet design specifications.
+ Arrange shoe repairs as needed.
+ Create project timelines and building schedule.
+ Organize pre-production items, including cast measurements, name dividers, name tags, etc.
+ Assist with fittings as necessary.
+ Create fitting schedules.
+ Lead costume alteration process.
+ Assist in managing the costume budget.
+ Assist with acquiring and purchasing costumes materials.
+ Attend assigned dress rehearsals and assist with wardrobe crew training.
+ Oversee repairs and other costume issues presented during production runs.
+ Supervise production strikes.
+ Assist with coordination of costume loans and rentals.
+ Assist with craft construction as needed.
+ Assist in the execution of costumes for the Summer Theatre Academy.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Assist Costume Designer/Costume Shop Manager in the monitoring of student employees and lab students working in the Costume Shop (30%)
+ Assist with the creation of assignments for student workers.
+ Teach students the safe and proper use of Costume Shop equipment.
+ Mentor students in costume construction.
+ Become familiar with safety equipment, and encourage use by student workers.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
