    Summary Statement

    Are you passionate about serving older adults and creating programs that foster community, independence, and well-being? The City of Boise is hiring a Senior Center Program Specialist to lead engaging activities, coordinate volunteers and staff, and support the day-to-day operations of the Boise Senior Center.     Essential Functions

    Answers phone calls, collects registrations, assists facility customers, and provides answers to the public regarding Parks and Recreation facilities, senior programming and activities. Ensures senior programming offers a high level of customer service. Works to foster community partnerships with outside organizations to enhance current or create new programs. Communicates with participants and community members about services available to seniors. Assists with fundraising and donation efforts.

     

    Recruits new volunteers, conducts volunteer orientations or training, schedules and oversees volunteers. Hires, provides direction and oversight to part-time and temporary staff, creates schedules, and assigns duties. Collects feedback from participants, volunteers and partners to improve programs offered. Develops procedures to ensure programs offered are consistent and safe. Ensures programs operate within budget constraints.

     

    Leads programs throughout the community designed for senior citizens. Creates, implements, plans, finances and evaluates senior programming. Transports, interacts and ensures the safety of participants, staff and volunteers. Assesses abilities of participants and adapts programs or activities to make them accessible.

     

    Writes newsletters to promote and advertise events. Creates flyers, develops websites, and utilizes social media outlets to assist with marketing and promotion of services. Provides information materials to promote healthy senior living.

    Requirements

    Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

     

    Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, Business Management, or related field and three years of experience supervising, developing, and managing youth and adult public recreation programs, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

     

    Functional knowledge of methods involved in developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating recreation programming; principles and practices of public recreation; community relations techniques and public contact programs; program development; marketing, advertising, and social media techniques.

     

    Ability to plan and coordinate senior recreational activities; establish rapport with people of all ages, developmental ranges, economic, cultural and/or social backgrounds; develop promotional materials and marketing approaches; effectively direct and supervise work of temporary and seasonal staff; develop policies and procedures; operate a computer with demonstrated proficiency using related database, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications at an appropriate level for efficient job performance; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City of Boise employees and the public; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

     

    Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

     

    Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

     

    Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Education, or related field

     

    Licensing And Other Requirements

     

    Valid Idaho driver's license.

     

    Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification through the City of Boise or equivalent certifying institution within six months of employment.

     

    This position may have to work evenings and weekends as needed.

    Special Requirements

    Applicants must be able to pass:

    City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and balance.     Working Environment

    The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures and in wet and humid conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals.
