    Position Summary and Purpose: Operates grinding machines during the assembly and manufacturing process to perform precision smoothing, polishing, or grinding.Selects, calibrates, and uses a variety of grinding machine attachments and other standard manufacturing equipment. Deburrs, buffs or polishes materials to specifications. Examines work pieces for defects. Ensures that safety devices are operative.

     

    Off Shift, either 2nd or 3rd shift available.

     

    2nd shift starts at either: 2:30pm, 3:30pm, or 4:30pm (Optional year-round)

    3rd shift starts at either: 10pm, 11pm or 12am (Optional year-round)

    *Training for this position will be on the first shift (6am or 7am start time). Once complete and upon moving to off-shift, you will receive an additional shift differential pay of $2.50/hr.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    ESSENTIAL:

    + Receive work assignment; secure drawings or specifications, ascertain sequence of die assembly cycle, and related inspection requirements

    + Lift machined parts manually or with aid of remote overhead crane or hoist, and position for assembly on work table

    + Using hand tools such as abrasive stones, files and power grinder, smooths flat and contoured surfaces and fits parts to each other

    + Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances using dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges and micrometers; dowel and bolt parts together using hand tools

    + Operate upright drill press to drill and tap holes for die assembly

    + Operate cut-off saw to cut die pieces for assembly

    + Test dies in press brake to verify accuracy and conformity to blueprint and customer specifications

    + May dismantle die and repair or replace parts

    + Stamp dies and apply necessary identification decals

    + Frequently perform such additional tasks as layout, burring, simple sub-assembly and finishing of filler blocks and knives

    + Maintain a clean and orderly work area and perform all assignments in a safe manner and in accordance with established quality procedures

    Education and Experience:

    REQUIRED:

    + High School diploma or certificate of equivalency

    + 2 years prior experience with press brakes, drills, saws, and or hand tools

    Valued But Not Required:

    + Prior small machine experience

    + Technical school certificate

    + Computer classes

     

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Characteristics, etc.

    REQUIRED:

    + Ability to read and interpret prints

    + Must know GD&T

    + Ability to use micrometers and gauges

    + Excellent math skills

    + Attention to detail

    + Commitment to company Core Values

    Valued But Not Required:

    + PC skills

     

    Tools, Technology and Equipment Used: Press brake, remote overhead crane, cut-off saw, drill press, precision measuring tools, machinist’s hand tools, power hand tools

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms and climbing ladders. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times.

     

    The employee must regularly lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

     

    The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies and to act as a role model in the adherence to policies.
