    Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cattaraugus County has an opportunity for a Sustainability Campaign Educator working from the Ellicottville, NY office.

     

    Serve as a member of the nutrition education team to deliver established public education programming to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among Seniors and people over 50.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Associate’s degree or Equivalent Education. GED/High School Diploma plus transferrable program/functional experience may substitute.• Four years’ experience relevant to the role of the position. • Experience educating public groups using USDA and SNAP or Healthy Habits guidelines or completion of Master Food Preserver training. • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.• Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.• Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.• Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods. • Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.• Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks, deadlines, requirements, and priorities to complete work in a timely manner and within established deadlines.• Ability to present effective and relevant educational lessons to target audiences (one-on-one and group) and work with diverse audiences of all ages maintaining cultural sensitivity.• Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.• Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.• Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation.     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience with community education, nutrition education, or outreach.• Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community.• Familiarity with purchasing and preparing foods, utilizing business expense accounts and pragmatic use of resources. • Familiarity with reviewing and following recipes and assure compliance with federal and state guidelines.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Program Delivery - 85%• Assist SNAP education to prepare lessons for group education or to offer community food/nutrition classes as scheduled by association. • Deliver high quality programming to individuals and groups utilizing existing USDA and/or SNAP approved nutrition guidance/guidelines including education on safe food handing techniques and safe kitchen skills. • Assist in providing existing information to bring awareness to the public in the form of impact statements, articles for progress/annual reports, and news releases, etc. • Provide social interaction for community seniors in the areas of food preparation, discussions of gatherings and connections in local community networks. • Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire association and nutrition staff to achieve association programming delivery goals.• Represent CCE before the public, participants, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.

     

    Program Evaluation - 5%• Implement program evaluation as designed.• Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data for programs.• Communicate evaluation results and findings.• Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods.

     

    Administrative Coordination/Operation - 5%• Coordinate Elderberries program including hands-on lessons regarding food and social connections. • Coordinate all aspects of program including location, registration of participants in Cattaraugus, Allegany, Chautauqua and Erie counties. • Coordinate, compile, and organize existing program resources and program materials.• Prepare materials for educational sessions including general office functions (coping, sorting, labeling materials, shopping for supplies). • Prepare ingredients for recipes including: washing, cutting/peeling, preparation of all ingredients. • Travel to location, set up classrooms or space. Clean up materials at end of presentation. • Review program materials inventory and let office staff know what items need to be replaced. • Maintain records, complete reports, accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process to support the goals of the program and support future grant applications including surveys, voice votes, success stories.• Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.• Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.• Transport self and/or program materials/resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.

     

    Professional Improvement - 5%• In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.• Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events as scheduled/required.

     

    Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions• Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.• Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.• Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

     

    Policy and Other Duties as Assigned - Applied to all duties and functions• Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. • Conduct all programming and activities in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, procedures, processes and Skills for Success. • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner at all times. • Perform all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.• Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

    Expected Weekly Hours: 20 hours per week (Part-Time)

     

    Hourly Wage: $21.50 per hour, commensurate with experience Location: Based from the Ellicottville, NY office Remote Status: Remote work is not available .
