CTG is seeking to fill a Senior Firewall Engineer opening for our client in Richmond, VA.
**Location:** Richmond, VA (must be within 1 hour driving distance or willing to relocate)
**Duration:** Client Permanent Placement
Duties:
+ Implement and maintain firewall policies based on input from the Information Security Team
+ Serve as a liaison between the Information Security and Networking teams, ensuring alignment and communication
+ Collaborate with the PMO and system owners to define firewall requirements and document communication flows
+ Advise partners on B2B VPN setups; document VPN configurations and associated traffic
+ Maintain up-to-date communication design documents for systems crossing firewall boundaries
+ Assist in troubleshooting systems by analyzing firewall logs and interpreting TCP/IP packet captures
+ Keep firewall appliances current, including OS versions, antivirus signatures, threat databases, and licenses
+ Stay updated on emerging firewall technologies; evaluate and recommend enhancements
+ Perform firewall hardware replacements and system upgrades as necessary
+ Monitor Service Desk tickets; own or delegate firewall-related issues accordingly
+ Participate in the Technical Review Board and Change Advisory Board processes
+ Ensure effective communication with all IT areas and business departments
+ Conduct research on firewall technologies, protocols, and standards to support IT strategies
+ Establish and uphold SLAs for network connectivity and uptime
+ Support adherence to administrative procedures and directives
+ Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Information Systems
Skills:
+ Expert-level knowledge of Palo Alto Networks firewalls (PCNSE certification preferred)
+ Strong understanding of networking systems, protocols, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN technologies
+ Skilled with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools
+ Ability to record and interpret TCP/IP packet captures
+ Familiarity with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Java, Perl) is a plus
+ Effective communicator, able to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
+ Leadership and mentoring abilities, with a willingness to guide junior engineers
Experience:
+ Minimum 6 years of experience working with Palo Alto Networks firewalls
+ 2+ years of team leadership experience preferred
+ Healthcare industry experience is preferred
+ SD-WAN and Prisma experience are nice to have
Education:
+ Relevant Bachelor's degree preferred
+ Cisco CCNA or equivalent knowledge preferred
+ Microsoft certifications a plus

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $115,000 to $126,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefit package is also offered.
