The Jackson School of International Studies (JSIS) combines the social sciences, humanities, and professional fields to enhance our understanding of our increasingly interconnected globe. JSIS currently offers seven undergraduate majors, 14 minors, nine interdisciplinary MA degrees, and a uniquely designed Ph.D. Program. Additionally, graduate students have the opportunity to pursue concurrent degrees in programs such as business administration, public affairs, law, public health, marine affairs, and forest resources.
JSIS has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director for Career Engagement and Experiential Learning to join their team.
The Assistant Director for Career Engagement and Experiential Learning is a key leadership role within the Jackson School’s Office of Academic Services (OAS). This position oversees the strategic planning, administration, and enhancement of career readiness programs, including experiential learning courses such as capstones, internships, and skills-based seminars. The Manager ensures that JSIS students benefit from transformative academic experiences that foster professional growth and global fluency through coordination with faculty, students, employers, and alumni.
This position reports to the Director of OAS and supervises one staff member. It plays a central role in integrating career development with academic programming, ensuring alignment with the School’s mission and the evolving needs of students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** **Career-Focused Experiential Learning Oversight
+ Administer and support career-engaged courses, including the International Studies Capstone, JSIS 497 Internship, and International Negotiation Simulation courses.
+ Collaborate with faculty to coordinate curriculum logistics, secure capstone evaluators and guest speakers, and support course promotion and recruitment.
+ Creates reports to monitor and report on program effectiveness, student participation, and post-program outcomes.
+ Oversee budgeting, travel logistics, reimbursements, and event planning related to experiential learning.
+ Creates and maintains up-to-date course documentation, syllabi, and materials across quarters. **Career Engagement Programming & Events**
+ Design and coordinate skill-building events such as career panels, workshops, employer visits, and alumni networking opportunities.
+ Build and sustain relationships with APSIA, alumni, and employers to connect students with relevant opportunities.
+ Collaborate with the JSIS Advancement and Communications teams to promote programming and student success stories.
+ Produce the weekly JSIS-JOBS newsletter highlighting internships, jobs, and career events. **Supervision and Team Leadership**
+ Supervise one staff member in supporting student engagement through scholarships and FLAS coordination, as well as overall coordination.
+ Provide day-to-day mentorship, conduct performance reviews, and foster a collaborative team environment. **Program Operations & Administration**
+ Create, maintain, and update career-related web content and event materials.
+ Support the broader Office of Academic Services by participating in cross-functional projects and major school events (e.g., Orientation, Convocation).
+ Develop and manage internal databases related to internships, capstones, and student participation. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of relevant experience in career services, academic programming, or experiential education. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Demonstrated experience managing programs, coordinating events, and working across diverse stakeholder groups.
+ Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and digital platforms (e.g., Canva, WordPress, LinkedIn).
+ Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Master’s degree in International Studies, Public Policy, Higher Education, or related field.
+ Knowledge of global affairs and the professional pathways associated with international studies.
+ Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including international and first-generation students.
