Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the general direction of the Facilities Management Director, the Operating Engineer is responsible for a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, and heating/air conditioning tasks to include installing and repairing equipment, and maintaining buildings and grounds as assigned.
What you will do in this role:
+ Installs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on various equipment in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals, maintenance schedules, and manufacturer specifications.
+ Operates, tests, and maintains diesel engine unit used for emergency power and related storage tank and transfer pumps.
+ Maintains and repairs air handlers, exhaust fans, supply fans, patient beds, sterilizers, generators, and oxygen and vacuum systems.
+ Repairs, operates, and maintains hot water heating water systems to boilers, transfer pumps, heating coils, piping, and related controls.
+ Repairs, operates, and maintains chemical water treatment and chilled water systems to include chillers, transfer pumps, cooling coils and towers, piping, and related pneumatic controls.
+ Inspects, installs, repairs, and replaces pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas, and draining systems.
+ Maintains an inventory of required equipment and supplies to perform required responsibilities.
+ Maintains all equipment and supplies required in the provision of services in optimum operational status with procurement or replacement of equipment as needed.
+ Maintains documentation of all activities performed.
+ Performs other duties as assigned by the Engineering Director.
+ Utilizes power and hand tools safely and proficiently in the performance of position responsibilities.
+ Calculates quantity of materials and supplies needed to complete assigned projects.
+ Utilizes appropriate principles related to safety and infection control in the provision of services.
+ Utilizes appropriate body mechanics in the moving and lifting of supplies and equipment.
+ Utilizes appropriate precautions related to infection control in relation to maintenance of equipment, supplies, the environment, and personal hygiene activities.
+ Communicates effectively verbally and in writing to fulfill position responsibilities.
+ Develops, reviews, and manages the activities of self in collaboration with the Facilities Service Director based on demand for service.
+ Actively participates in Hospital and Departmental committees and group meetings with a focus on providing input regarding improving the quality of services in the facility.
+ Ensures that problems or concerns regarding the areas of responsibility are communicated with the Engineering Director.
What qualifications you will need:
+ Stationary Engineer must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
